Synfire 1.7.14 Update

The update published today adds support for Pro Tools 10 and later and VSL articulation matrices. We also added an uninstaller for OS X and a finer grid for the phrase editor. Apart from that, this update is mainly for bugfixes and incremental improvements.

Avid Pro Tools 10 and later is now supported. The installer deploys AAX Drones along with their AudioUnits and VST counterparts. Pro Tools links to Synfire's transport using the ReWire Transport module, like other DAWs. For the sync to work, you need to load the 'Transport' instrument and a number of 'Drone' instruments into each track of your project.

It basically works the same way as with all other DAWs. Except for the tempo, which PT refuses to accept via the ReWire connection. You will need to set it manually in PT, or find a way to import the tempo map from Synfire.

Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL) uses double key switches for articulations (x,y). These are now supported by Synfire: Simply write both key switch notes in a row with no spaces between, e.g. C0F#1. Important: Articulations you created or modified with 1.7.14 will not load with previous versions of Synfire -- so please make a backup before trying this feature.

The finer editor grid is accessible from the toolbar's grid setting: Hold the mouse down to open a menu where you can enable the grid.

From the View menu, you can now enable the display of articulations in each Figure. Both, the editor grid and articulations will display only if the zoom is close enough.

The loop selection can now be disabled/enabled and no longer gets lost when working with a library or resetting the transport.

There's more in this update. A complete list of changes can be found here:

Happy composing!

(at the time of writing, the downloads are not yet ready -- they should be in an hour or so)

New builds #8 are online now. We added a few more fixes (excerpt from the list of changes):

  • Automatically add new connector to a device, if necessary (synths only)
  • Loading a rack module preset for the first time did not restore plugin state
  • Keep submenus open longer to accommodate mouse movement
  • After recording a first take, figure recognition should use 'Auto'
  • Failed switching to Figure parameter after recording a take

The new feature that adds connectors automatically makes working with multiple instances of the same plugin a snap. It is explained here: http://users.cognitone.com/tutorial/using-multiple-instances-plugin

Submenus don't anymore close that fast, which makes navigating to distant items more comfortable now. This comes at the cost of the submenu title feeling a bit more 'sticky', but no drama. One gets used to it quickly.

"The finer editor grid is accessible from the toolbar's grid setting: Hold the mouse down to open a menu where you can enable the grid."

Finally, great work !!!

Best update ever :)

3 of my top requests are finally in...

Thanks !

One more question though...

Love the way you can edit while playing now, but what happened to auditioning the  notes/vectors when paused ?

Used to be automatic here, is there a way to set this ?
