Synfire 1.8

Posted

Synfire 1.8 is out now. As a measure of caution, it's labeled Beta (under the hood a lot of things changed). If no issues arise, we'll remove that label in a couple days.

Here's the announcement.

Post any comments or feedback in this thread - thanks!

A note to all Cubase users on macOS:

Please delete the VST3 versions of the CognitoneDrone, Soundcase and Sprike in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/VST3. We accidentally added VST3 versions of our plug-ins to the installers of the Beta. These versions will crash Cubase currently.

New builds #3 are now ready for download.

We fixed a problem that blocked Synfire from starting on OS X versions earlier than 10.11.

A few minor issues with plug-ins have been fixed, too. If you had plugin-related issues, you might want to give it a new try.

Any Ideas on how to get midi to a instrument rack in ableton?

really needs to be a way to pass midi from drones to other midi tracks.

If it's the live MIDI stream you are talking about (as opposed to exporting), a MIDI Drone would do the job. This is a regular Drone set to MIDI-only mode on the rack. It will have a MIDI output that you route inside Ableton.

MIDI Drone works with VST format only.

New update1.8 crashes ableton at startup, had to uninstall and go back too the 1.7 build

which is working .

Thanks for reporting this.

Intrerestingly, Transport works with Cubase and Logic, but crashes Live and Reaper currently. Will look into it.

Just trying 1.8 on Mac (10.11.6) and the Load Plug-In button only works the first time - you get a selection of all your plu-ins, you pick one (all great!).  But once you've picked on you cannot go back and pick another.  It just offer the first selection - holding down the button does not work, creating a new track does not work and creating a new arrangement, even, offers ony the plug-in chosen in the first arrangement.  Looks like a great improivement, onve it's working.

Thanks for reporting back. Much appreciated.

CUBASE 8 crach with Synfire 1.8.3

A few days ago, the installer included incomplete VST3 plugins. Please delete all VST3 versions of Cognitone plugins manually and try again.

once you've picked on you cannot go back and pick another

Hold down the button for 2 seconds and the menu will appear.

creating a new track does not work

Double-click in empty space on rack.

offers only the plug-in chosen in the first arrangement

Now that's truly weird. No idea how this would even be possible, but maybe a re-scan of all your plugins will fix it.

Seems to work with a really long click-and-hold?  But only some of the time?

I have already done that before 1.8.3 so it can’t be the reson that crash Cubase 8

The culprit is /Library/Application Support/Propellerhead Software/ReWire/Transport.bundle

Moving that file aside will fix the crashes, but also disable transport synch.

The weird thing is that no Cognitone code is even mentioned in the crash logs. Propellerhead's ReWire.bundle crashes, apparently when some sort of cleanup or lookup is done. And that only with certain DAW (Logic X and Cubase 9 work fine, for example). Unfortunately this library is closed source (not our code), so all we can do is guesswork and trial and error. Still hope we get this fixed tomorrow.

Transport.bundle has now been fixed.

As this only affects a single file on macOS, we have not assigned a new build number. Please download the same build again (be sure to delete your old download so not to confuse them) and install. You can install the Audio Engine component only, saving a little time.

Hi

I have installed the last update of Synfire 1.8 in my macbook with Sierra and the new audio engine does not works.

It failed many plugins when scanning and when i open Synfire in the Sound assigment does not appears the option of Audio engine - load new plugin

I have tested the scan with the 32-bit and 64-bit plugins

In the previous versions this never happened

Please some help?

Thanks

Please check the following:

  1. Keep your plugins in default folders (Components, VST, VST3). Subfolders under VST are ok.
  2. Run a full scan (Playback >> Audio & MIDI Setup >> Audio >> Scan for Installed Plug-ins: "Scan and Reset") and do not interrupt it.
  3. During the scan, if plugins crash or jam, let the scanner continue and don't interrupt the scan.
  4. Respond to any pop up messages from plugins, so the scanner will not assume they are broken.

It should not be necessary, but a restart of Synfire after a full scan won't harm.

Hi

Andre thanks for your help

I follow your steps and does not work.

I don,t interrupt nothing and many plug-ins failed in the scan and when finish the scan i close synfire, open it again and in the Sound Assignment does not appear the Audio Engine option.

Must i activate it in another place.

I don,t understand what happens, nerver had problems when scanned the plugins in previous versions.

Another synfire´s 1.8 user with the same problem with macOS Sierra  10.12.1?

Is there somebody that works well with Synfire 1.8 and macOS Sierra 10.12.1?

Mon, 2017-06-19 - 20:01 Permalink

We tested on Sierra without problems.

Maybe you should update to 10.12.5 or whatever is the current version.

Can you email me (in your user folder) ~/Library/Application Support/Cognitone/ScannedPlugins64.txt, BannedPlugins64.txt and the 32 bit equivalents of thee files in a ZIP to support at cognitone dot com?

Hi Dre,

I'm on Windows 10, running only Synfire Pro 1.8 build 4. I simply added an instrument with Kontakt's factory Grand Piano. I added a MIDI clip to it and the playback's audio is fine. But the transport line is choppy. It's as though the GUI is at about 5 FPS. Functionally, it works though, but it is a bit distracting.

I also tried this with the Zebra2 synth, and got the same results.

I'm not sure what other details would help you reproduce this. I understand it's a "it works on my machine" kind of deal. I get those every day at my work. :)

Thanks!

BP

I also noticed the playhead display refresh is a bit slow on Windows. It doesn't seem to be related to CPU load. Merely a cosmetic detail that doesn't affect audio. We'll check if that can be sped up a bit.
