devices from arrangement rack got lost

yesterday when I closed the arrangement and synfire too, everything was fine.

Now opening it today all instruments from arrangement rack are lost. "Device not found. Identification has been changed or deleted..."

All devices were part of private arrangement rack, not of the global rack.

How can this happen ???

Using synfire 1.7.18.   Is this error already fixed in 1.8 ?

This warning message does not mean the device is gone. It's still there. Usually the warning goes away after you re-assign the same sound from the browser again.

With update 1.8.1 much of the code around this has been rewritten from the ground up. Therefore it is likely you won't see this happening anymore.

Reassignment is not possible, as in Arrangement rack tab there are no devices any more - it's cleared...I needed to open the most recent backup version which still worked.

I haven't yet tried v1.8 because I'm worried that my global and arrangement racks /device definitions will not be migrated properly...

Devices or rack modules? Either way, this sounds strange. It appears for some reason the file was not fully saved.

The device file format has not changed with 1.8.1, only their management in memory. Older arrangements and racks all open fine.

Only if you saved a rack with 1.8.1, where one device is selected for multiple rack modules, that rack will not open smoothly with older versions. Still, even in that case, this can be fixed by adding the old "connectors" to the device and re-selecting them on each module.

Always make a backup before you update, so you can revert to the previous devices and/or arrangements, should you need to.
