Problematic performance from Synfire

Posted

1,  I am trying to import a simple midi file to collect phrases. I did this yestarday with no probelms now the program gets stuck forever in the analyzing mode. Pix 1

2. When I ty to enlarge the import screen, it either goes completely white or it cuts off the bottom of the gui.

3. It thinks its a sax file, but I tell it that I want piano. But in the Total Progress window it still refers to it as piano.

After many attempts at varying import parameters, the program continues to get stuck as shown in the image. This is a file it had no problem with yesterday.

At this point I am dead in the water using Synfire until I get some asistance.

I have uploaded a movie showing my attempt at importing this midi file. I stopped at a point where it gets stuck. FYI I did vary the parameters from just auto detect. I would appreciate help in resolving this. Wellapparently the site wont let me upload a movie. Not good.

Tried again varying import parameters. This time it almost competed but a white box appeared and again the program is stuck. Not good. Image 2

Please check out this tutorial on import: (http://users.cognitone.com/tutorial/import)

It shows how to import the file in one step and postpone the figure recognition to after the import. This greatly simplifies the process, as you can save your results while you make progess, track by track.

Whether an import is quick or takes hours depends on whether the polyphony in the file causes a combinatorial explosion, i.e. if there are millions (billions) of possibilities how Synfire could combine the notes to Figure segments. The shorter those tracks are, the better. Since most tracks contain lots of repeated patterns, the import procedure suggested in the tutorial also helps you focus on unique regions in each track (you will not want to import 1000x the same riff).

This site should allow video upload. What format did you use?

I'm interested in learning about the white box. If it's a bug that slipped into Synfire with the last update, we need to know to fix it.

Thanks for taking the time. I'm confident we will get you going!
