Render note one halftone higher/deeper than "calculated"

Posted

Is there a way in synfire to "mark" a single note of a figure (no static pitches) to be played one halftone higher/deeper than synfire would render it normally because of harmony, voice leading etc. without changing the harmony/chord at the relevent time/position  ?

I already tried  changing one or more of those note properties (chromatic +/-,diatonic +/-, bypass voice leading)

(How) could that be achieved ?

The only idea I have to achieve this reliably (if the chromatic setting for the individal symbols do not have the desired effect) is to use the separate Chromatic parameter (only in Synfire Pro available). But that's of course a rather cumbersome method.

Be careful, though, as this hacked tone might not work anymore if you change harmony.

If you can figure out the chord or scale that includes the desired note, it's always better to use that instead of doing a chromatic hack.

You can use the palette to find the chord by pressing its notes on the keyboard. With a scale it's a bit more work, if Synfire doesn't suggest one automatically.

Yes, changing the harmony is the obvious solution, but I want the other instruments to play the pure C Major chords without any extensions (which is a quite common requirement)...
