Secondary Chords? Key changes?

Posted

I've been pouring over the manual, forum and videos. Secondary chords are mentioned in the manual.

I'm quite interested in Synfire as an analysis tool. I'm in the process of learning music theory.

I wish Synfire displayed all secondary chord possibilities and keychanges and the return to the original key.  The thread below tells me these are not automatically displayed, or even presented to the user as possibilities to chose from.

Is that correct?

The user must program each function individually which is lots of work, there are many combinations to choose from.

I'd like it displayed this way for, example:

       o
  V
-----
 vii

A key change would change the roman numerals to the new key until a return to the original key.

You would do these additions (like DD, DDD, etc) to the palette layout only once. Save the layout as a template (or even set it as the default) and it will work for all keys at any time you select it.

I wish Synfire displayed all secondary chord possibilities and keychanges and the return to the original key.

This largely depends on personal preference and style. There are so many ways of dealing with key changes. Showing them all would certainly be more confusing than helpful, if there was enough screen real estate to begin with.

Regarding key changes, did you know you can open multiple palettes at the same time? This will highlight each chord and its different function in the respective key, which is a great tool for building key changes.
