Test: playing random notes on predefined harmonies

Posted

Another little test.

- Setup a C major palette.
- Assumed (via Palette menus) F as Root, and C as Tonal center. In other words, I set up an F Lydian palette, i.e. a C major scale starting from F, with the B-natural giving the characteristic lydian mood.
- I defined a simple chord Progression. Then Synfire suggested C Major either as Global Key and Relative Key. Agreed :-)
- I started recording in Right Hand Instrument "track". I played on my 25-notes Novation master keyboard a rough melodic profile and a limping rhythm using only the first five notes of the Lydian scale of F (F-G-A-B-C), figuring myself as an amateur who engages with a fashioned, antiquate improvisation.
- As expecetd, Synfire did of its best to fit my outdated melody into the Progression. The result was not as bad, but, as expected, I had to adjust, raising or lowering, some pitches here and there. I did not touch the Interpretation parameter, accepting the global default. The "melody" was assigned by Synfire to blue symbols, i.e. to the global horizontal scale(s). I changed just one anchor, but I left the segments as joined by Synfire.
- For the left hand I writed manually, with the pencil tool, a simple barcarolle-like, repetitive accompaniment (purple figure). And, just for fun and to test the "mood" given by the turquoise figures (horizontal scales), some quick ascending passages.

Here is the notated output of Synfire, imported as midi file and graphically edited in Notion 6. You can listen to the result from the attached mp3.

Happy Synfiring a tous! ;-)

EDIT: the Ab in measure 3 should be notated as G#, being the horizontal scale (right hand) chosen by Synfire a C.major-add#5, and the vertical scale (left hand) an E.phrygian-dominant
