Yamaha sw1000xg - Snth 1 and Synth 2 - PROBLEM - BSOD if used together in one arrangement

Posted

Hi,

I use Yamaha sw1000xg sound card. As already known, this card has 2 syths with 16 midi channels each, that means 32 midi channels. If I use Synth 1 onli in one arrangement, everything is good and nice. But... if I add Synth 2 than I get the blue screen of death! Why, i can not undersand. The same was with win xp, now i use win 7 and always the same problem. I am aware that SW1000 is hardware, not vst or soft synth.

Important to mention is that this problem comes in Synfire only, in all other programs I can use the bouth midi outputs without any problem. I need 32 channels without the latency. For composing I want to avoid big librarys and so on because composing working enviroment (good, solid sound, no latency) and producing are 2 very different things. That is why I use this card.

What that can be?

Best regards

Hi, interesting this because i do own also the Yamaha sw1000xg soundcard too, but don't use it now in my music setup on the computer.
I know Synfire is supporting 16 midi channes and do you get the SW1000XG soundcard working in windows 7 64 bit ?
Synfire works probably only in the GM mode for the SW1000 XG card ?

I looked very much for such discussion about SW1000xg on internet. This topic is very spreeded but nobody succsseeded to get run SW1000xg on win 7 64 bit. That nervs me since quite number of years. We are always blackmailed or from yamaha or Microsoft or computer industry. For example EDIROL ORCHESTRAL would be a nice solution but it does not run on win 7 at all. I have 32 bits win 7 installed bu t like this I am limited up to 4 GB of ram. That means to be forced again to buy something. I need 32 instruments for symphonic orchestra. Even I have Cubase 8.5 PRO and Halion Symphonic Orchestra. Everything works fine but whn I load 10 instruments, than is the end of ram. If I install win 7 64 bit, and want to have 16 GB of ram, then I must say good bye to SW1000 and prepare at least 2000 thousand euros for such computer. That is shame that Yamaha did not made 64 bit driver for SW1000 and DSP Factory. Also is shame that Roland - Edirol does not have a version for Orchestral to run on win 7 32 and 64 bit. No more sound cards with wave table, especially not with 2 midi ports wit 16 midi channels each. Seem so we must be rich and have enough money to buy a new computer if we want to work at all! Eternally sound setups and lecking of ram and device descriptions is frustrating and kills creativ work. That is why I wanted  to work with SW1000 without ram and latency problems. Now, on my 32 bit version of win 7 I can use only 16 channels without using SW1000 Synth2. If I try that, I suddenly get BESOD the blue screen.  I do not see any solution except to buy another computer from people who refurbish DELL computers, I7 or XEON with 16 or even 32 GB of ram. Such computers I saw already oferred for 600-700 euros.

Can the SW1000xg act as a stand alone midi soundmodule to get all sounds
Is it possible to get a device description for the SW1000 XG.

It seems to me that there must be some users of Synfire, who are using a hardware soundmodule ?

http://users.cognitone.com/topic/how-make-device-description-sw1000xg-soundcard (note: it is sloppy thread )

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The SW1000XG not only contains the 128 basic GM Voices and GM drum set, but many variation

Voices as well—to give you access to a total of 1,267 Normal Voices and 46 Drum Voices.

In XG mode, the basic 128 GM Voices can be accessed by selecting Program numbers 1 – 128.

Other Voices can be accessed by selecting both bank numbers and Program numbers. The Voice

bank can be selected via MIDI Control Change Bank Select (MSB and LSB) messages. In XG

mode, the MSB value determines the Voice type (Normal, Drum), while the LSB value actually

selects the bank (excluding the SFX bank).

When the SW1000XG is in TG300B mode, the Voice banks can be selected with appropriate MSB

numbers, as LSB is fixed.

how do the card's MIDI input ports look like in your Audio & MIDI Setup window? can you post a screenshot?

I don't have the sw1000xg installed on my computer at the moment.
It seems to me that it must be possible to get all sounds from the sw1000xg into Synfire..up to 36 midi channels?

BSOD ( blue screen of death ).. i read in the sw 1000xg advanced guidebook that this bsod has to do with a driver ..sw1000xg is not officially supported in windows7?
Must there be used a midi loopbackdriver, then a multiple lopbackdriver should be needed?

Sun, 2016-08-07 - 00:25 Permalink

Here is pdf with all sounds adresses and banks. By t he way, I also think that BSOD has to do with the driver. How is that this happens in Synfire only? The same case was with win XP. Idea with loopback driver is interesting.

If you can give a screenshot of the midi input in Synfire.. as @supertonic (from Cognitone) asked for.

Hi Leonbacardi, if you can give a screenshot of the midi input in Synfire from the sw1000xg then @supertonic will help you.

For example EDIROL ORCHESTRAL would be a nice solution but it does not run on win 7 at all.

There seems to be a version for Edirol orchestral that runs on windows 7 /10 .. i can send a link for this to try out

And here is audio setup window. SW1000 has 6 stereo audio channels and it was shown and recognized from system with win XP but from win 7 not any more. It is shown and recognized as only ONE audio channel.

I think it is better to go back to win xp then for sw1000xg .. you could install win7 and win xp on the same computer.
It is rather easy to build for Windows a own cheap desktopcomputer...but probably also for MAC computers ( i don't have experience with Mac building)
The SW1000xg has very little needed from the operatingsystem calculation power, only for Synfire you need to choose a fast enough processor
Look at https://www.alternate.de/ for parts, but building a own cheap MAC for 400 Euro is not that easy as i see here in a Dutch article https://nl.hardware.info/reviews/5251/3/een-mac-voor-e-400-workshop-hackintosh-installeren-onze-hackintosh

Yes, it is better to give your e-mail adress, but earlier in the forum it was possible to e-mail private to forum member..it seems to be disappeared?
Then i remove this download link from this forum

It should be fantastic to use the sw1000xg as midi soundmodule getting to work..for all sounds..but how to do this in Synfire?

Note : using windows xp for this , then you get the sw1000xg normal working
Only if sw1000xg is working with Synfire for all sounds, then i can make a setup for this.

Synfire is not accepting the HQOR .dll from edirol orchestral ...using the wrapper software for DXi ?.. i try this..

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

NOTE:
VST version does not recall presets.
This is specified from the developer.
Not a bug or crack issue.
Use DXi if you need recalling.

We also included VSTi-DXi wrapper (dxshell) by Xlutop.
You can load DXi from the VSTi hosts.

The dxshell is also useful for some native DXi hosts
(like FL Studio) which have compatibility issue.

Version: 1.0.4b

This package contains the following:

- dxshell.dll, a wrapper for directx effects(dx) for use in vst host applications.
- dxishell.dll, a wrapper for directx instruments(dxi) plugins for use in vst host applications.
- mfxshell.dll, a wrapper for midi fx plugins(mfx) for use in vst host applications, beware that not all mfx plugins may work with this wrapper.
- shell2vst.zip, a small tool which is able to convert so called "shell vsts" to standard vsts.
- this readme.txt

How to use:

1. Copy the dll files to your vst plugins folder.
2. If your host directly supports shell vst you are ready to use them from now :), if not you have to convert them at first with the shell2vst tool I mentioned above.

Currently the following hosts are supporting shell plugins, perhaps there some others too:

- Cubase SX
- Renoise
- Kore2
- Temper
- Reaper
- Buzz
- Tracktion
- Aodix
- Vsthost

I got orch to work on win7!!!! It works now!Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!   SW1000 midi part works ok on win 7. Two things:  1) we can get only one audio (hardware) channel instead of 6 like with XP. That is not important for us and Synfire. 2) We can use only one midi port in Synfire as gm instrument. If we try to use both, then we get BSOD as I told before. With just one midi port no problem. That would be nice to have device description for this card because there is a lot more of sounds than GS/GM. I must learn how to do this but if you do that would be fantastic! Interesting is THAT THIS PROBLEM COMES ONLY WITH SYNFIRE. I have Synfire PRO. With all other software no problems to use both midi outputs at time, 32 midi channels!

That's great that edirol orchestral is working on win 7!
Can you use now sw1000xg as GM soundmodule with 16 midi channel in Synfire ?

Note: i installed the dxishellwrapper and Edirol orchestral is showing up in Synfire Pro..only extracting a device description is not responding
I made a fixed DD (device description) for one sound in Edirol orchestral for the Flute Vibrato... It works !..let me add a second voice Oboe vibrato on midi channel 2..works also normal.
Now you can add up to 16 midi channels in one rack for the Edirol Orchestral.

I add two instrument tracks in the arrangement screen and the flute and oboe can be played as example..it seems that there is a lot of possible with the re- engineered version of edirol orchestral.
It has limited use for articulation of the instruments.

Note: i don't know yet what to do with the:  shell2vst.zip, a small tool which is able to convert so called "shell vsts" to standard vsts.

----------------------------------------------------------------

I try out also Edirol super quartet..with 28 guitars!

4 high-definition stereo multi sample based modules:
Piano: 28 pianos covering a broad genre from acoustic to electric. Offering a large dynamic range with four step velocity switching.
Guitar: 28 guitars covering a broad range of acoustic styles including steel, nylon, slide and flamenco.
Bass: 11 Bass types.
Drums: 3 drum kits containing 94 different instruments.
16 part multi-timbral.
128 note polyphonic (CPU dependant).
Reverb & Chorus.

I am using also the asio multi driver:  Asio link pro in Synfire for windows
Halion Symphonic Orchestra for 32 bit has quick a full memory load ..and with Edirol orchestral you can load more instruments?

Sun, 2016-08-07 - 16:39 Permalink

I have only 4 GB of memory. Yesterday I made an experiment with Halion Symphonic Orchestra. I succeeded to load up to 10 instruments. That was the limit. Edirol Orchestral requires much less. I think two instances (2x 16 channels.) would work without the problems evemn with 4 GB of ram.

Sun, 2016-08-07 - 17:22 Permalink

Did you tried the Edirol Orchestra in Synfire Pro? .. i have used a dxi wrapper for that ..otherwise used as Vsti the edirol orchestra seems to be not possible to install in Synfire?
I am curious how much racks can be made with Edirol orchestra..

If automation is needed (Msw=modulation wheel.. sounds) you need the Vsti version of edirol orchestral ?
