The Mac OS X install DVD includes the application AU Lab as part of the developer tools (optional install). I just noticed that this is a very lean and beautiful host for virtual instruments (AU) that can also be used with Harmony Navigator!
The tool is free (comes with 10.5 Leopard, haven't checked yet if also with 10.4) and seems to work fine. It even looks very cool. I've loaded Garritan Personal Orchestra, The DLS GM Synth, NI Akoustik Piano and many others for a test (still exploring)
Anyone interested in running VIs on the Mac should definitely give it a try. I'll post a video later.

Found this article on AU Lab on Tiger:

I'm still having trouble loading NI plugins saved along with an AU Lab document on Leopard, though. Anyone know a solution?
