Have this set up to trigger a vst.
When i click on a chord in chord mode with my mouse the chord is sustained for around 15 seconds is this normal? Can i not toggle a chord so when i release the mouse button the chord releases.

The default behavior of the "Chords Only" mode currently is to play sustained, aligned chords that keep sounding until the next chord is clicked (or stop if nothing happens for a certain amount of time). Admittedly I had a sustained string or synth pad in mind and this might not suit all situations.
It's one of the things that are currently being revised, so thank you for your suggestion. Using the mouse button release event looks like a good solution.
As for now, you could chose a percussive sound (piano) to work around this.

I think that there's pro's and con's to this. I don't think I would like to keep the mouse pressed in order to here the sound. I think the chords only mode is kind of a "debug mode", which allows you to focus on chords. Choosing an instrument allows you to define the length (as Andre posted already) and to me that is even more than a workaround. btw: clicking on stop or pressing the space bar (even quicker) to end the sound does the trick already today.

Thanks for replying to this some time ago.
I never really figured it out.
I create a new device create bank & patch for percussion & electric piano, select
that percussion or piano patch for chords/pads in default instruments & mix.
It make no difference its sustained still. Am i missing something here?
Also it tends to change my patch on my vsti when selecting new palettes this can be frustrating when i have tweeked a patch on my synth because its then lost. Is there a way to prevent this?
The "chords only" mode currently plays sustained notes only. There is no way to control this via the mouse, as it is used to navigate the palette (would be nice to have two mice ;-)
I'm planning on adding a "Dumb Cable" device that does nothing but provide 16 channels to pick from. I guess this would be better for some situaions where one wants to do all the sound controll on the VI host exclusively.
This will be an update with 1.6.1 I hope.
Andre
BTW: The new version 1.6.1 just went online (see "Downloads" section). It includes some improvements for VI users. What's improved?
1. We added a "Manual" switch to a Device, which inhibits all automatic settings of volume, controllers, program selections, etc. This is nice for virtual instruments when one wants to do all the mixing oneself.
2. A new device template "Simple MIDI Cable" was added. This device consists of 16 empty sounds that just map to channels 1-16 and do nothing else. This may also be helpful for VI users, as it doesn't require any preparation.
However, this devices and the "Manual" option inhibt all the intelligence HN normally uses to play the instruments correctly. You are now responsible for setting the playing ranges for each channel such that it matches the sound that is connected there.
You may want to rename and save a copy of the "Simple MIDI Cable" device if you have more than one VI to control.
Enjoy.

another suggestion is just to use ableton's note length midi plugin before your VI.
