User library

Now that you can import phrases, palettes, progressions and songs into HN2 I would find it very useful to have a user library/database where you can upload those and share with other users. It would increase the usability for all users.

Does anybody think this is good idea?

I'm a along time NI Reaktor user and the user library there is truly adding value to the product and is at the center of the community. E.g I have intentions to create chord progressions of some Beatles songs. I would be happy to share those with other users if there was a convenient way of doing that. Preferably some kind of database here at Cognitone so all users find it easily.

Good idea. Repositories require some extra attention with respect to potential legal issues however. We would need to monitor all submitted files for potential copyright violations. Midi files of popular tunes are usually protected.

Considering all midi files out there of all major pop songs I just can't see that it would be a real problem. If you set clear rules what is allowed to upload and a contact for copy right complaints.

I guess there are a few sites selling midi grooves, bass lines, drums etc and uploading a whole library pack of those would be both immoral and illegal to share.

Also if you only allow registered customers the potential damage for anyone would be limited. Frankly, I think this library would below the radar.

In the the Reaktor user library that I have used for about 10 years a few cases of copyright cases have occurred, when somebody ripped a GUI from a commercial VST synth or used a registered trademark. Maybe 4 cases of about 3500 uploads in 10 years. I estimate there are maybe 20.000+ registered users. Just to make a comparison.

As far as chord progressions are concerned, I don't believe it is possible to copyright a chord progression. There shouldn't be any problem with that part.
