Windows Vista and Midi Manager

This may have been posted before but thought It's worth mentioning it in case there are some new or demo users pulling thier hair out having to fiddle about getting HN to make a noise every time they boot up Vista and run a DAW.

The midi manager in Windows Vista is hidden, making it difficult to set up a default midi device.

Point your browser to: http://www.brainmaster.com/kb/entry/334/

You'll find a little app download there, if you dop into windows/system32 directory and re-boot, you'll then a new icon for midi management in the control panel which will allow you to select a defualt OS - GM synth or a device of your choice - i.e. Microsoft softsynth or LoopBe/midi yoke etc etc

Since it's been installed, HN has auto selected LoopBe and has routed itself via steinberg to a varied selection of VST's with no problems when it's been launched and solved quite a few problems (apart from HN's midi export and timing problems, which are the topics in other posts and forums anyway)

Now... if only the start/stop button on HN could be sync'd to the transport on a DAW - it's already been done quite well via Cubase system link (and on V Stack some years ago) so there no reason why it can't be done with HN 2 - it's only a midi cc on/off command after all. That combined with a simple right click to by pass the fiddly and outdated GM "Devices" section might just make put HN onto a home run....
