Adding Fillers and Variation

Posted

I am looking for way to have a simple motif or sequence play and I would like to had different fillers or variations in between. The most obvious way from what I am seeing is to add a child container, the problem I am having is that its taking too much time since a child container overwrites for the container's duration. I dont want to omit the recurring sequence, just add fillers.

When I attempt to use a child container, I spend alot of time trying to adjust the actual phrase and fiddling with the container size so that there are no blank spots but no luck. When I do get it right, the original sequence is not hear for that child container's duration

Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks!

There are two ways to do this:

  1. Destructively: Make a snapshot of the Figure and edit variations by hand (or drop them from a library)
  2. Non-destructively: Insert short containers and place variations in there (you can edit the length of a container on the parameter inspector - no need to fiddle with the mouse)

Containers need not start at measure bouonds. You can move them anywhere and they can have any length. As said, positioning them on the parameter inspector is best for very short containers.

Having same issue with source/ parent container and phrases going silent before and after the variation container.

I entered the filler container manually as suggested and got that pretty easy but the source goes silent 2m before and 2m after. The filler container plays fine and is 1/2m. The filler container contains nothing else but figures

How long are your segments?

If an anchor of a very long segment is overshadowed by a child container, the segment is silent as a whole.

Ah yes, that was the culprit. Its tricky because if I then move the anchor, notes overlap since the container is so short. This is very good to know and helps me be a bit more confident while dealing with containers.

Thank you

Got it. BTW, LOVING being able to type in the exact location of start and length for each container. I feel like a musical surgeon.
