Grrrrrrr ... am I doing this wrong, or is there really no way to move/ extend the loop position or length in the time ruler?

Posted

I'm looping. I extend the root container another four bars (or so I think as I cannot see where my target is in the blank space to the end of the root container).

I go to try and somehow extend the end of the loop section to encompass my additional 4 bars, but cannot find anyway to do it except to start all over again. Any click just turns the loop line into the orange position playback triangle.

Then I find I've actually only extended 3 + 3/4 bars and have to do it all over again.

Is it possible that there is no way to extend, shrink or reposition the selected 'loop line' in the time ruler?

Couldn't there be some little box that opens up when I am moving the end of the root container to tell me where my current end position is?

Go to the ruler at the top - left click and drag till you get the end to be..  Note the quantize value comes into play here too.  Set quantize to 1 measure..  The looping section will have a thick blue line you can shorten or lengthen.. It's a little finiky sometimes.. I sometimes make a loop when I don't want, or kill it when i don't want..

If your new phrase makes a container longer than the root container, you must change that too.

Go to root container - on the right of where the instruement lanes are select container.. change that value to reflect the length of the the song.  A child container can never be longer than the root container.

I'm referring to looping over the root container ... so, can you shorten or lengthen the loop after you initially set it up? I want to 'adjust' it without having to redraw it.

I am used to in Cubase being able to set a 4 or 8 or whatever bar loop and then drag the loop left or right according to the quantize value to retain the loop length, but start it at different points in the time line.

I am also used to shortening or lengthening the loop at either the left or right side if I want to.

I can set it up to loop. I just can't seem to adjust the length of the loop once it is first in place. I don't see any changes in the cursor from the mouse pointer to indicate I can do anything else?

Thanks for the quantize tip ... I'll set to '1' to make sure I can only loop in measure sections when I want.

As with any span selection, hold SHIFT while you click in order to extend or shrink it.

I am so glad I was doing something wrong .... errrrh ... make that, 'not doing something right!'

Thanks.
