I've started my demo of SFE ... and I'm glad I spent a lot of time learning HN2, as all the basic concepts seem to carry over well.
The first thing that caught my attention was the fact that there did not seem to be the equivalent function of "Span Sections."
I am probably missing something, but if that is so, since Express does not permit automatic library creation on import this seems a step backwards from HN2.
In HN2 I take my midi file and open in my sequencer and find the measure length of intro, verses, prechoruses, choruses, middle 8s, etc., and plot them out for the file. Then I create sections of the exact length and order and import with 'span.' This makes it simple to keep parts collected and identified by the nature of the song section ... more dynamics and busier for chorus, sparser for verse, etc. It also 'edits' the generated phrases to fit the sections.
In Express is there really no way to do something like this? Otherwise I am left with simply scrolling through the song track by track and selecting and copy pasting to the library.

Interesting to examine the workflow for setting up a song in SF/E versus HN2 ... ofcourse it is more easy in SFE than in HN2? (it must be)
I must compare this also too and you can use in Edit >> Preferences : Reveal Experimental Fatures.. to get HN2 back in SFE ( now you can open a song file in SFE )
You can also make sections in SFE
I open SFE and HN2 at the same time with a midi
Ok if you have your song in Cubase ?
I import the song ( with songsections) in SFE -> repack this in a new container (otherwise you cannot divide : the rootcontainer is not dividable)-> divide the packed container in songsections ..how about that?
Note: Keep child containers in a row --> perhaps useful for SFP, but less for SFE ??

Is in HN2 automatic library creation ? ..import Sketch and import phrase
Sketch makes phrases out of the midi..that's all

In HN2 this feature is only a simplified workaround to overcome the limitation that one can not import a single phrase into the root container (which is invisible).
With SFE, you would do it this way:
- Import your file
- Create containers that reflect the song's sections. In root container, use Container >> Keep Child Containers in a Row to achieve the same section alignment as with HN2. The good thing is: You can see and gear already were these sections are.
- Select each container and make snapshots of phrases, parameters, or the entire container.
- Delete the phrases from root, if no longer needed there.

I am struggling to understand, Janamdo. I will look for the menu item you describe later.
I do understand that HN2 has a hidden 'empty' root container. So I could at least imagine that if you packed child containers side by side in the same way I create sections, it would be possible to replicate the 'span section' function on midi import.
There is no automatic library creation in HN2, but the 'span section' feature makes it possible easily to create phrases consistent with the basic structural sections of a song, i.e., verse, chorus, etc.
You talk about using both HN2 and Synfire Express. I thought Andre told me that when you upgraded from HN2 to Synfire you could no longer use your previous HN2 install.
Or, are you just no longer able to upgrade the HN2 install?

But i think..haha... that the grammar not much can be improved by me : ).. i must do my utmost best.
Further.. i try to find out if SFE more has to offer than HN2, regarding the library
