Would there be any conceivable reason to upgrade from HN1 to HN2 if one is a Synfire user?
Or does Synfire still do everything HN2 can do?

No. Synfire Pro offers ten times the power of HN2 and includes all its tools anyway. Except for the song window. You don't need that because the arrange window is more powerful.
