How do I import a audio track?

Posted

Is it possible to bring in a audio track that I could use as the baseline to build on.   I have a audio vocal track from my daw and would like to build instruments around it.   I can't find how to import that on a track?

Thanks

Unfortunately synfire can't import audio files.

howeverr if you use the synfire drones in your daw and setup the rewire transport in the daw too, rather than using the synfire engine, you will find everything keeps time, spot on.

the other thing I do a lot especially if working with and vocal rack, is feed it through some audio to midi converter ( built in to the current version of ableton live but also possible with melodyne and other tools). This midi can then be imported into synfire and used to determine the chord progression of the vocal. You can them use the harmoniser to add to this progression and add other instruments that fit with the vocal. You are free to delete the imported midi or mangle it some way, it will still fit in...

one of the cognitive videos shows this process although Andre works out the progression by ear. Unfortunately I can't remember which video it is, off the top of my head.

I think this is the video blacksun is referring to:

&feature=youtu.be

Although this method is not very easy in most circumstances so the only other option is the built-in converter in your DAW or Melodyne if your DAW doesn't support it, also as blacksun mentioned.

Thanks guys!!!!   I was hoping synfire would allow an audio track to be placed  internally in the project so it could used as a base to develop around (could that be a feature request lol).   When I'm in music creation mode I would just like to fire up synfire, no daw! and noodle around in it with a backing audio track.   Well I guess it's time to jump to the chapter syncing my daw...lol.    I've not gotten to that one yet....   Drinking from a fire hose....here

i just bought a industrial radio 4 string bass....so I suspect I will have a lot of bass midi patterns soon, if any one wants them.

that looks like one serious piece of kit. cant wait to hear the bass lines you generate with it and yes I'd be up for some patterns, definately.

You can keep your audio in the DAW and sync it with Synfire.

If it's a vocal melody, it should not be too complex to be transcribed as MIDI, that is, you probably can play it on the keyboard, record and fix it in Synfire. This will allow Synfire to run the Harmonizer on it, looking for matching harmony suggestions.

The only downside: You'll need to host all your instruments in the DAW using Synfire's Drones. Working inside Synfire standalone is easier to deal with during composition and prototyping. However, once you have the transcribed melody, you can do so until the song has setteled a bit, then move to the DAW/sync setup.

Yea the plan is....  I own Rocksmith 2014 and have about 1500 songs with bass lines for it in a variety of different styles (pop, rock, folk etc).    I’m going to hook up the midi output to my daw as I play through the songs in rocksmith capturing the midi data for each.   Then will bring those midi files into Synfire for figure creating.    Hopefully when I’m done I will have a bass pattern library that extends through 60 years of rock and roll, pop, indie and folk.   lol

But it's not at all a bad idea for the next update. Possibility to bring audio tracks to Synfire would be highly appreciated by all Reason users (like me). There's no need to make it complicated and fully editable (volume slider would be enough), just to have it inside Synfire as a base for new track developing as Pbright has written.
That would be great! I think it could bring new customers from Reason community also.
We have been begging Propellerhead to allow VSTs use but they want to keep Reason as much stable as possible, therefore they use internal formats only... But audio tracks importing to Synfire would solve a lot.

Can we hope? Someday?
