this is something that escapes me. As my channel 10 is reserved for drum kits, how can the smf import choose any other non drumkit instrument on that channel?

great! tested some of my old Midis and up to now it seems to be working fine!

if I may suggest 1 thing : as i often have a couple of instruments that play less than 10 notes during the arrangement, a button to import all tracks would be fine (yes, i know : i am a lazy guy)

something that i think is still a bit buggy:

if me imports a container from one arrangement to a second me always have to define the last instrument...
in hamburgerisch:

even right click / Edit does not open anything.

Edit : Thank You So Much! for the    "Auto Bass"

Thanks for the reports.

combining tracks still shuts down synfire

Can you send a midi file sample to support at cognitone dot com? Can not yet reproduce it.

with some longer and complex midis synfire pro hangs up when trying to make a figure out of the take

Lieber Andre

Yep, there's a bug with the "Merge" function. Just fixed it. Thanks Minkepat.

synfire pro hangs up when trying to make a figure out of the take

It should be impossible to hang, because the algorithm is unable to hang. However, it may take a very, very long time (an hour or so). If you have fast polyphonic staccatos over many bars, that can choke it.

New builds are online, now including new user manuals!

Everyone should read the introductory chapter "Technology" and the chapter "Audio & MIDI Setup", which have been rewritten. You may find things you did not discover yet.

Many reported bugs have also been fixed already.

Is this a bug?

I've been having problems with Drones and Reaper, which is probably a Reaper problem. But I've been running some tests - trying different things.

When SynFire can't find the original DAW Drone, I get an alert box "Could not find... please reload..."

I click OK or try to close the box but it loops back to the alert box. The only way to get out is to do a hard shut-down.

Bugs in adjusting playing ranges of instruments?

1. Decreasing the size of the playing range (tab 'lower') to zero or above/below the green key gives crash with error: "Can't create a fraction with a zero denominator" [In tab 'sounds', tab 'Arrangement Device Descriptions] (I sent the crash report)

2. Somehow changing the playing range manually is not stored, program reverts to original range setting. In the tab 'arrangement' -> tab 'Instr.' -> tab 'Ranges':

- change the range of the instrument

- grey box pops up left of instrument name in arrangement window to indicate changed range

- selecting instrument -> adapt playing range from sound reverts back to old range setting.

This happens for instruments in both the private and global racks. Can anyone confirm?

Running Synfire 1.7.1b7,  Windows 7 64 bit. Please contact me if more details are required.

I click OK or try to close the box but it loops back to the alert box.

It should do so 3 times only (retries) and then give up. Doesn't it offer you a choice to use the engine instead? Have you disabled the engine?

Yes, is a known issue.

Of course it does. You are telling it to do so ;-)

On the browser, uncheck "Accept From Sound" on the range editor to avoid this.

Thanks, sorry, I misunderstood the meaning of ' accept from sound' in the chapter 'Assigning a sound'.

However, this unchecking 'accept from sound'  when changing ranges works when done in the tab 'Instr.', tab 'Ranges' (it automatically unchecks when the range is changed), but it does not work in the window 'Find sound for [...]"  that opens after double clicking the box just left of the instrument name in the arrangement tab. Here, also, the 'accept from sound' is unchecked automatically when one changes the range, but upon pressing 'ok', the range is reset to the sound's original range. For the latter to work, I found that one has to uncheck the option ' accept playing ranges from sound'  in the 'Settings'-tab of the ' Audio & MIDI Setup:' window.  Don't know if it's supposed to work this way, but it feels a bit inconsistant and therefore got me confused.

I think I found a bug in 1.7 in the Harmonizer:

I was working on an arrangement in 3/4 time and in the Harmonizer, I tried to click to add a chord on beats 2 and 3.  However, the cursor seemed to go somewhere in between these beats, as if it is in 4/4 time perhaps?

New builds of Synfire 1.7.2 are ready for download. Many bugs fixed. Updated the Engine.

However, the cursor seemed to go somewhere in between these beats

Check the grid setting on the toolbar. It also applies for the Harmonizer.

Don't know if it's supposed to work this way, but it feels a bit inconsistant and therefore got me confused.

I changed this to default to disable the switch, if the instrument already has customized ranges. Should be more intuitive now.

Thanks everyone for your feedback and help. The new 1.7 became quite stable already.
