No keyboard input for VEP plug-in in Synfire to VEP server for Windows.

Posted

Started the VEP (vienna ensemble pro) server and installed 1 instance of the synchron player with an instrument from the Epic Orchestra 2.0 library.
Inserted a VEP plug-in into the first instrument track in Synfire.
Keyboard connected, but there is no note input from the keyboard.
In device descriptor descriptor screen under the sounds tab in Synfire there is a keystroke from the midi keyboard controller to be seen, but no sound from the connected instrument to be heard on the server?
Controlling the keyboard with the mouse in the device description screen or via a signed symbol input in the structure screen does make the server instrument audible.
Note: midi in would go through Synfire's audio engine
How to solve this ?

I suspect I'm back with an old problem of two conflicting audio drivers in Windows.
The VEP server uses an audio driver and Synfire cannot now find an audio driver for the midi input , because 2 audio drivers cannot coexist in windows.
Could mer a mac computer though as I understand.
Another solution is to put the VEP server on its own computer whose audio driver is separate from the audio driver used by Synfire.

Go try it....
May take a while unfortunately.
Now with a few updates put on it Synfire starts scanning all plugins again and again
This is annoying because some plugins are damaged or seem to be missing.

Doesn't seem to work the VEP server with windows audio drivers either.
Note on-off of keyboard does not seem to work, though clicking with mouse on keyboard located in Synfire itself works and server instrument can be heard
So no recording is possible.

I am now starting to get the idea that Synfire is not suitable to work with Vienna ensemble pro server.
Do I compare the setup structure of Vienna ensemble pro server in Cubase with that of Synfire.

Briefly tried Cubase with the Vienna ensemble pro server and within a few minutes it was working with a midi controller input via a midi track.

Unfortunately I don't understand exactly where you get stuck.

Synfire is not suitable to work with Vienna ensemble pro server

Do not despair. I'm currently working with Synfire and VEP Server every day (for this construction kit project). It works absolutely flawlessly. Your issues seem to be specific to your Windows PC and hardware drivers.

Doesn't seem to work the VEP server with windows audio drivers either.

If so, Cubase should have the same issues. There is no difference between Cubase and Synfire with respect to claiming an audio device. I can imagine though that running all three of them at the same time might be a problem.

Note on-off of keyboard does not seem to work

I suspect you have a problem with a USB MIDI input driver that cannot be shared.

I have not used Synfire and Cubase at the same time, as there is no need to do so.

I already wrote here on the forum that in Cubase I got the desired setup in Cubase with Vienna ensemble Pro server working on the Windows computer within 5 minutes.

This has not yet succeeded me this vienna ensemble pro server with Synfire unfortunately in Windows and on a Mac computer it might be no problem.

I would say test it out on a windows computer.

I am  curious  at the solution, otherwise show me the needed steps in Synfire and Vienna ensemble pro server for this setup on windows 11.
I just played a midicontroller keyboard in Cubase without problem, but in Synfire it does not work.
Its selecting the midiport of the midicontroller in Synfire for de midi in and i must be able  to play a instrument track
Seems that Synfire is recording the notes played on midi controller , but there is no sound and no symbols to see during recording ?
Thinking about this with just Cubase : could it be that Cubase keeps the usb driver occupied ?
So i disable the midi controller in Cubase now, let's see what happens.

If midi is being recorded when you play the keyboard, but not sound, does it sound when you press play and play it back? If so check the Midi Through settings on the inputs page (there used to be an option for this in the menus but not sure if its there on version 2).

That was a golden clue from you Blacksun!
The Midi trough circuit in Synfire made everything go wrong .
Vienna ensemble Pro server now works as it should.
Also says in help of Synfire that normally via a device descripton use, automatically it is not necessary to micro manage the midi channels.
Now with the Vienna ensemble pro Vst that connects to the Vienna ensemble server in Synfire, no device descripton has been created to automatically micro manage the midi channels?
