is it possible to create simple chord prgressions over a 4/4 beat then export the midi file for use in my porjects ? i cant find any tutorials that show this sort of thing, jazz chords is what im after really,

Sure, you can do that. For plain chords, this takes only about two minutes, provided you know the chords already. Otherwise you might spend some time surfing chord palettes to build the progresion you like.
You could do that with Harmony Navigator as well, by the way.
If you have midi files at hand that you want to render with new chords, you can import these into Synfire, pick from their tracks whatever you like, and use that for your projects. You will need Synfire to edit the phrases. HN can't do that.
You should wait for the demo and try for yourself.

so ive created a simple 3 chord progression as an intro could i import this midi file and develop this into a larger progression for verse / chorus ??
also i want to create gospel chords / soul chords
from scratch, is it possible to create these over a 4/4 beat ?
can i try this out in the demo ??

The easiest way to get the 3 chords progression into HN or Synfire would be to simply type the chord names in the progression editor. Import is more appropriate for melodies you want to harmonize.
However, if you don't know the chord names yet, import them as static pitch and run the harmonizer on them. It will suggest the most likely matching chord names.
This will also give you an instant idea of the key you're in. You can open a palette on it (using the context menu) and try out more chords that suit the context and build an extended progression starting from that.
You would have to have a certain idea of what kind of jazz chords you want. This depends on style decisions. If your unsure regarding the conventions of a style, you should get yourself as many examples you can find and listen carefully how they are composed. There is no hidden magic in HN/Synfire that will do this for you, but generally opening multiple palettes on related keys and just playing around is very inspiring (reset the chord filter to see all the complex chords).
You can try this with the current HN demo. The upcoming version 2 demo will include many improvements, so you might want to try that when it's available too.

yeah i need to download the demo and see if i can get to grips with it, as the interface looks a little over complicated.
i just want to see if i can create some nice chord progressions export the midi and use a rhodes see how it works and sounds, for soulful neo soul style chords
