Starts hangs on FluidR3 - SF 2.2.2

Posted

Hi Andre,

I am not sure if this is an issue with the new version 2.2.2 because the last version stopped working as it did not reach the port 8822. So I removed Synfire2 and reinstalled it (Windows).

Now the new version hangs for minutes on the point "Loading Soundcase FluidR3". When it continues it works.

Also if I load an example it hangs on "Restoring Engine 1:02" for minutes.

Already added synfire folders to whitelist of my Sophos Virusscanner - that seems not to be the reason.

Can you help me?

--- update ---

now I totally removed all Cognitone folders and reinstalled it and it complains that the audio engine is missing.

Ok that I can do manually - but maybe there is something wrong with the setup?

But now it starts fast - so main issue seems to be solved - but loading the Chanel No5 example hangs also a long time on "Restoring Engine 1:02"

--- update ---

Sound does not work. But when I click the test button, it works. So only playing notes does nothing. The wrench icon is red. And if I click it, it see 2x FluidR3.

It becomes a pain.

By the way: if deinstalling SF2, the installer does not remove the audio engine, but installs it again.

--- update ---

Reinstalled everything again. Still have 2x Engines in SF2 listed. In first engine I selected soundcase which took a long time. Then the sound in SF2 played. BUT the long start-time of SF2 is also back.

... so I am on the same point where I started this thread.

Not sure what you want to tell me?

It looks like soundcase needs a very long loading time (maybe, not sure).

It's about the location where you can install your plug-ins
I have installed the VST3 folder that also contains Sprike in it, along with many other plug-ins with extension .vst3
Are now all 64-bit plug-ins I think with extension.dll and extension .vst3
If there is .dll in th VST3 folder it will hang with plug-in scanning i think

There is in Synfire VST (.dll) and Vst3 (.vst3 ), both 64 bit
There are two versions plug-ins of soundcase and sprike

indeed after the last update the trouble begins with the scanning
There was code optimized?
Now it starts scanning all the time when i start Synfire

Now I tested the Soundcase.vst3 to be loaded in my DAW directly: The same issue. Somehow this VST hangs during loading. But I don't know why? it worked in the past. Tested also an older version of the VST3 from a backup - the same.

Furthermore I added the folder to whitelist of my Virusscanner(s) - also c:\ProgramData\Cognitone\Soundcase

Audio Engine and plugins have not changed since version 2.2.1.

Once the scan has completed it should not run again unless you touched some files in the VST folders.

Does the same delay also happen with the VST version of Soundcase?

Looks like. If I go to the Rack and set the VST to none and then select VST2, it also have a long loading time.

In my DAW, if I open the VST3 of soundcase, it also has a very long loading time.

Something seems to be going on in soundcase. I just guess that it tries to unpack the soundfile and somehow that takes so much time. I don't have the sourcecode to see if it maybe tries to create temp-files somewhere. Maybe you know more here. Whatever it is doing, it takes minutes now.

Meanwhile I think the reason is: Sophos Home Ransomeware protection.

If disabled, it takes 8 seconds to load.

I tried also another VST (sforzando), but it does not support program change. But it loads the soundfont file fast - no issues there.

Do you have an alternative VST for SF files with program change?

It should not take longer than 3 seconds on a modern PC. Soundcase is pretty robust and reliable. It doesn't connect with the Internet either. There is probably something else at work.

For me 8 seconds is better than minutes. Like I said, disabling the ransomware protection in Sophos let it start in 8 seconds.

It is strange to me - looks like some file operations of soundcase looks suspicious to Sophos. Was already in contact with them but no solution yet from their side. I wonder if soundcase does create somewhere temporary files that I can exclude from scanning? But I did not find any.

Can you recommend another GM plugin, that supports program change and can load the soundfont file?

-- update --

I have now bought VSTSynthFont64. With it I can also load the SF2
without any problems. Unfortunately the VST is a bit buggy. But somehow
it runs and loads fast.

Alternative still welcome.
