I read this when you first posted. I drove cross country to visit my dad. He starts telling me about Fermi. We are all aliens really. My aunt had one of those sightings 40 years ago where a white light comes out of the sky and disables your car. visitors...

There is another possibility that wasn't mentioned.
Maybe we are the ONLY, placed here by the same intelligence that designed and created the entire universe.
Perhaps we are placed here to learn what we can, and then to pass from this realm into another realm where we would join those who have gone before us. In that realm, distance and time would be insignificant, for we would travel through both time and space at the speed of thought.
We would be somewhat like the ant transfrormed into the rocket scientist (or sotware engineer ;>)
