(What is the) best way: sounds at hand quickly

Posted

What do you think is the best way to have sounds at hand quickly?
Should you have them all in the Global Rack? Disadvantage: very long loading time for all Synfire launches. Also inflexible...
How do you solve this?
Is it possible to hold sounds as Presets in the Rack Module Library? As I see it, you can only store VI there but no presets for VI.

When you save a preset from a rack module's 3-way button, it will be listed in the Rack Module Library automatically. There you can rename, move and edit it. It includes the device descripton, the plug-in and its current preset.

Thx, Andre. Sounds that this is what i'm looking for.
But... what/where is the Rack Module's 3 Way Button?

Hey Spukispuki,

I'm finding that if you save presets for sounds you like (so the combo of device and vst settings is stored), then creating phrases on the library and having the sounds loaded in the library rack is the fastest I've found so far to having sounds at hand quickly.

I do indeed. Using this approach the articulations, controllers, vsti sounds and devices, as well as prepackaged phrases are all ready to go and then adjust directly into the arrangement.

In fact, I think having the sounds so well prepared is essential to be able to work with Synfire. Unfortunately, I still find the setup confusing even in Synfire 2.

Hi I have a similar question: Can I save all the devices I have in Arrangement Rack as one present or say a template?

Hi all. I'll hop online at the Synfire webinar tomorrow at 7pm GMT. See you there.

Playing ranges, CC and articulations should probably be copied from the instrument to the sound automatically (write-trough), in cases where the device was created by the wizard for convenience. Some check box that's on by default, or something. Currently testing that.

I tried that yesterday, but the saved sound didn't contain the playing range.
There's a webinar tonight adressingf that process: how to create a sound with all settings (playing range, category, articulation) and store it as a preset.
That would be a perfect setup for me.
Andre, it would be great if you could join in tonight.
