So I found an easy source for MIDI content on my IPAD. Shoenberg's IOS app called "CHORDBOT" can export midi files of it's arrangements stored in the program. These are electronic sounds but are nicely separated by instrument so they load into Synfire libraries in an organized fashion. The sounds are a bit dated (Shoenberg even mentions "cheesy"), but some of the midi provides a nice starting resource in addition to the phrases already provided in Synfire. The convenient part was using Airdrop to transfer the midi files from my ipad to my computer. I was able to get a ton of midi from just one of the "shoenberg" mixer presets. I would recommend this for other beginners trying to understand more about making/modifying figures.
