Can HN 2 advanced let me import playing styles in? I.E. i'm able to come up with some cool chord progressions but i dont want to be limited to the way the chords are played (the drop down list)....if i can't do this in HN can i do this in Syn Fire Pro...if i can do this in syn fire pro...what are the options there? I'd appreciate some detail here. Thanks much!!
Glad i purchased HN so far..i really appreciate all the tech support

You can import phrases into HN2 Advanced Edition from Standard MIDI Files and use these for your own accompaniment patterns, or in a particular song.
You can 't add your own phrases to the built-in example library, though. We consider adding this feature in a future eversion.
Synfire supports phrase libraries as standalone documents, that is, you can create as many libraries you want and drag and drop to and from your projects.

What does "phrases" mean in this context? Also....Example scenario: let's say there's a piano midi file/song called "coconut" that I like the way they arpegiated the piano chords on...could I import this style of chord playing into HN2 AE and when I come up with a chord progression in HN 2 AE I could use/import the "coconut" style of chord playing but apply it to my chord progression that I've made in HN? If I can do all this...how would I do it? Thanks in advance!

The phrase is what the instrument is playing. It consists of a bundle of parameters, of which Figure is the most important. If you select an instrument and do Copy or Paste, you are moving its phrase.
To import a piano style from a midi file into your song, use the Phrase >> Import menu, pick the desired track from the midi file and you are done. It will follow your chord progression automatically. You might need to refine the import settings and try again, if the result is not immediately what you expected.

Thanks for the response as always supertonic. I went to the phrase import menu and i'm able to play back midi files and hear how they sound but most of the midi files i try to import while importing stick at at 43 or 44 percent (while importing). Some of the ones get stopped there but then several minutes later they import...or at least i think they do, there's nothing that tells me if they did or not and i can't really tell.... Any solution to this sticking problem?
Also in general i think it would be really helpful to have more video tutorials online. Like for instance how to make a song from scratch in HN 2 Advanced edition and while making the song how to take advantage of the import phrase feature. I'm in the process of reading the manual and some if it is pretty confusing. I really love the program though and am going to keep pushing. Thanks again for all the help.

I have successfully selected only a portion of midi songs I'm interested in.. Set the offset point and the length. This cuts the calculation time down drastically. Do it to several parts (intro, verse, chorus) and create a library. Now you have the defining parts of a song.

Importing long files can take a very long time. The import will always finish, but you might have to wait a few minutes or longer. There is a lot of pattern recognition going on. As markstyles pointed out, reducing the import span does help.
Andre would certainly be interested in what confuses you in the user manual. A new version is currently being updated, so you input is welcome!
New videos are in the pipeline.

Great thanks really really looking forward to more videos. I have found those very helpful so far....So far in the manual i'm reading the "Concept" section. And honestly the entire thing is pretty confusing to me. The english is also a bit odd at times which makes it harder to understand. How soon are more videos going to be uploaded? I'd love to see a "song from scratch" type video. Where a totally blank song is turned into a full song in HN AE including importing phrases.
EDIT
Also supertonic i just wanted to thank you so much for all this help you've given me i really really appreciate it. You're a huge asset to cognitone. Thanks so much again.
EDIT 2
By the way Mark thanks much for the tips!
