HN2 LE will help you find chord progressions of all musical styles, however, it does not generate random progressions automatically ("canned music"). It is more like an instrument that you can play around with to easily find cool new chords you haven't possibly thought of before.

HN2 does not generate audio (sound), so an audio example would not say anything actually. With HN you save the progressions as MIDI files, import them into Live, and play them with any sound you have available there.

Note however that the small LE version just outputs the plain, sustained chords (the vanilla progression). That's fine if you want to trigger argeggiators like Catanya, for example.

If you want rhythmic piano phrases interpreting the chords like a human player, the Advanced Edition can do that. There you can import or record your own phrases and have them "recomposed" to match any chord progression you can think of.

does the bass part just follow the chords or is there variations created ?

With the LE version, yes. There you get sustained bass notes with no phrasing.

With the Advanced Edition, you can create up to eight instruments and fill them with phrases (e.g. a bass run, or piano rhythm) all fowllowing the chord progression.

The general rule of thumb is: If you want to educate yourself in the theory of harmony, or if you're in electronic music and just need sustained chords, LE is fine. If you want to render one or more phrases that follow a progression, the Advanced Edition can do that for you.
