You certainly have some good elements to work with. There are several in a short period of tme. There are many ways to approach this.. one might be to lengthen the different sections, so the elemental riff can be developed more and possibly repeated.
One good exercise is check out some of the pieces uploaded that have a cognac file.. So you can see what they are doing.. There are a multitude of ways one can approach working with Synfire.. A good exercise is to study a feature, and then incorporate it into your piece. Whether you keep it or not, it is a good way to understand the different uses of the different tools in SFP
