Ableton live instruments

Posted

Im working on a mac and wonder what I need to do to get the ableton instruments to show up in synfire? I'm talking about the ones like sampler, operator, etc. Is it just that I have to rely on midi connections for these? Cheers

I doubt there is a way to make the Ableton instruments work with the drones; for, they are not plugins, and they cannot be loaded inside the drones. In order use them without a direct MIDI connection, and thereby keep them in-sync, you might look for a plugin that can route MIDI from the a drone to the Ableton instruments.

For example: Synfire track points to drone on Ableton track. Drone is loaded with MIDI routing plugin. MIDI routing plugin routes the MIDI it receives to a MIDI loopbak port. That MIDI loopback port routes that MIDI to the Ableton instrument.

I am not sure what gotchas you would run into doing that, but it is plausible.

You can select "Cognitone Drone" in the MIDI-From menu of your Ableton instruments and switch the drone to Local playback. That will mute the data it is streaming from Synfire.

supertonic

is there any disadvantage except the integration inside synfire using this method , is delay compensation still working?

One extra drone per each instrument is a disadvantage. For 3-4 instruments this might be no problem, though.

Delay compensation will not work because the drone does not know the latency of the Ableton instrument. It is probably better to use the old midi loopback for these instruments.
