Currently extending a vector (only tested with figure so far) by "trimming" to a longer size leads to empty space being appended.
What I'd like to see is an option to have Trim behave similar to Snapshot by adding data that is "virtually there" by inheritance or repetition.
Here's some pictures of how I think this option should work:
1. Where we start off...
2. Selected for trimming
3. Trimming done, material from surrounding added to the figure
Is this feasible?

;-) of course, yes: cmd-c cmd-v …

What I've done for demonstrating my request was making a snapshot.
Though I often copy and paste stuff, this time there was no c/p involved.
Perhaps the most simple solution for my request were if Synfire optionally performed a snapshot before trimming or a range-selective snapshot command.
