Arranger Mode for Snippet Memories
I've been thinking about ways we might be able to build higher-level structures/compositions out of snippets, and it occurs to me that an Arranger Mode along the general lines of the one Cubase uses might serve well.
The idea of the Arranger Mode is that "blocks" of time are designated by letters, then the letters may be arranged by the user in a list, with repeats, to create a full composition.
In a DAW (e.g. Cubase), the "blocks" are linear areas of time and the content is the mix of whatever tracks are unmuted during that time.
In Synfire, the "blocks" would simply be Snippet Memories. Currently we have A-H, but in the future we could have a many as are chosen to be allowed. Double letters (e.g. AA), or even triple (e.g. ABC) could be used to designate. Put 'em in a list, with repeat counts, and "Voila!" a very flexible instant composition.
All this could be (should be, I think) done in a separate window for ease and modularity.
Aside from playback, an operation to render the list into Synfire's Structure tab would tie everything together.
I think this could work out well.
