Hi, I am new to HN2 and also music theory so bare with my newbie explanation of things hehe. I am wondering if you can input 2 different melodies instead just one (for example, if I have one goin in my head for strings and the other for guitar). If yes, does the HN recognise the sum of melodies and takes into account the resulting harmony and calculates the chord progressions based on that? If so, it then probably narrows down the progression suggestions quite a bit right?

Exactly. It works like you said.
You can turn any instrument into a protected melody instrument. That will prevent it from being replaced when the basis accompaniment of a song is switched.
