Clean Containers

Posted

Sometimes after working on an arrangement for a while, it becomes a bit hard to 'follow' everything. Say I create a 'piano container', but a day later this piano container also has another instrument in it, and some paramters for a third instrument (not sure how I am doing this, overlooking something obviously).

If we like the arrangement so far and want to make it permanent, Can we convert to an accompianment then change back to a new arrangement?   Must we nest containers first for the whole arrangement to become one accompianment?  This way we have a defined arrangment, but less 'flexible'.  We can always copy/paste from origninal arrangement if we want to change things further down the road.

Although having parameters for different instruments in one container, can make some 'lucky accidents', Do  most here put only one instrument in a container?.  It quickly becomes truly overwhelming.

I'm developing my own style of arrangement developments. Strip instruments out of root container to individual containers.  Make up chord containers independent of any instruments, I leave root container with original instruments so I can get a good overview of whats going on.  It's my understanding that any container later added with a particular instrument will override the instrument in root container.

Does the paramter data have to always be tied to a particular instrument?  I know I can copy/paste to other instruments. But, can i take a piano track, generate 'step' data, then strip out 'step data' and move to a new container, one where the piano notes are wiped out.  Then I should be able to copy and slide this 'step container' along the piece so that the piano has a very varied note rhythm?

Perhaps others here, might briefly describe what their arrangment looks like...

In HN2 you can load a basispattern and arrange with songsections..the same can be done in SFP ( secret option! )..than you get a song page with sections
Than you can arrange a style with a intro -main-endings like in Tyros
By the way i think you can load Tyros styles in SFP ( in HN2 it was possible)

Than you can convert this to a arrangement and go further with composing
A arrangement to accompaniment ..than you use SFP as a stylemaker..if it is possible ?
Tyros styles are much richer in sound  than the  standardmidifile..so making styles in SFP is not possible..i think?

What do you mean by this?

Thanks Janamdo... Do you have a Tyros also?.. I remember messaging someone here that did.

Yes T4 styles are good to very excellent depending on if they used the SA2 articulation and Mega voices.  The mega voices are controlled by velocity, so there is no problem in that area.

I've spoken to Andre about this, but have not attempted.  You can import a Tyros style, by stripping out the Art2 data which is up in octave  6-7. You then import just the Art 2 data as a seperate track assigned to same instrument.  But you must shut off SFP automatic transposing of notes when it' thinks the notes are out of range..   There is a way, but I forget how to do it.  There are also articulations in Synfire pro but I haven't looked into that it appears this articulation is more for orchestra libraries, where you play C-1, D-1, to shifht articulatons.  Since T4 may have up to 15 articulation artifacts in upper octaves, I'm not sure you can do this from SFT.   It's confusing to me..

I generate create the arrangement file in SFP, port over to Logic pro and create Art2 and Mega voice artifacts myself,  Part of the problem is you can only load GM instruements back into SFP, so you lose any articulations you created in Logic (or any DAW),

Yes, I have firmed up the arrangement by turning to accompianment and then back to arrangement,  It's a little easier to following what's going on.

I was messing things up for a while, by manually moving containers higher or lower.  It would be visually so much easier to keep tabs on what's going on if each instrument was one the samle horizontal line.  Perhaps Andrew could arrange a button to shift the visual display temporarily so it was easier to track the arrangment.

I have run into situations, where my chord progressions end up in containers, other than I expected.  I'll have 4 bar section of drum fill, yet somehow chords get into it, even though it does not display with 'trace parameter'...  Perhaps I'm still overlooking something.. I've given myself a deadline of a year to get a really good grip on this software. It is extremely complex, with lots of hidden subtle features not defined enough.  Part of the fun is discovering it.

I keep notes of my experiments, noting what I did and the results, through trial and error I find the answer. Did the same with T4. It is a comp[lex beast, (but it is the best kbd I've ever bought in the last 50 years.  I rely on it alot , occassionally using Superiror drums, or drumloops, some kontakt instruents.

I prefer to keep everything song folder containerd.  I wish thre was an easy way to keep track of what libraries you used in a certain arangement (SFP should save and open this libraries each time you boot up),  Cause often you want to pick material from the same midi file to keep continuity Right now I open libraries, and open the get infor or about  box, and the library name is listed there. I shanp a picture of the desktop and keep that in the song folder.  Makes it more helpful later on when coming back to a project,

I'm forever working on a song, letting it set for days or weeks and reworking it with a fresh perspective,

Unfortanely i don't have one ..that is beyond my musical reach: i mean i did not make a choice for it
