i am trying to work with these two programs together, however i encounter alot of problems that make it impossable to get anything done.
for one thing when i set my track up to allow cognitone to play through even a simple built in vst what happens is
after each chord it changes mthe sound. so i cant get it to play my chosen sound for mor than a bar etc. another thing is if it plays through the track cognitone leaves out notes in the chord.so for a triad it drop voices etc. (annoying)
and cognitone will not operate for more than a few min without locking up..
sometimes cognitone will not even start up unless its started before cubase. (not always)
and last but not least when playing through cubase it will not add my bass choices it only plays root positions!
ive tried checking playback settings but nothing. etc....
i am frustrated because i dont see how you will fix all these problems? with out alot of work. sooo...
i dont guys just frustrated extremly. because i would like to create some music. why i bought the program. but if it cant even perform simple operations in my daw then what the heck am i gonna do just export midi for everything?
i would much rather work semlessly in REAL time .

Erik, I use cubase also, but i have never tried hooking it up to work with HN2. If you want to use your vst's to work with HN2, there is a free program called cantabile lite that works great as a vst host. I thought it was pretty clear that this program wasn't made to be integrated into a daw, and that the midi file was the only way to communicate with the daw. I think the reasons for connecting to various daws was to use the vst sounds. (http://www.cantabilesoftware.com/lite/)
You will also need midi yokes or similar programs to connect cantabile to Hn2. I believe there are links in the links section.

Harmony Navigator is a midi application. All it can do to control sound is send midi data to the DAW through a loopback driver:

If your plugin switches to another sound, that's because in HN the sound assigned to the instrument is associated with a midi program change.
I would guess you are using the default GM synth, while in Cubase your plugin responds to the program changes it generates.
The easiest way to ensure your sound does not switch anything is to use direct sound addressing for the instrument (see attached picture). There you set midi port and channel directly, ignoring the automatic instrument management.
