I just started playing around with Synfire this weekend, and had good success somewhat "freehand" composing lines and harmonies. However, now I would like to import some classical pieces for analsys so I can begin to build a library of phrases and figures. I've downloaded several short piano and orchestral MIDI pieces to my desktop, and must now "unzip" and......not sure what to do next. How do I get them into Synfire for analysis??
Also, if anyone can explain (in concise short sentences that non techies can understand) how I create within Synfire, save project and then export to Reaper for polishing and record.
Any help is appreciated.

jalles, Take a look at the tutorial pages there is a video that will show you how to import your midi file. (http://www.cognitone.com/support/tutorials/index.stml?p=1) .
If you are using a PC you can make a folder for your desk top by right clicking on your desk top -go to -new -than -folder. Open your zipp file than drag midi files to the new folder. When you are in synfire you will go to file menue than to import midi file .In the left hand Payne you will look for your desk top folder to find your midi file. The video should help to make things more clear.
Best of luck ,Joe

Thanks for the help, and I finally got it all figured out and now have imported several pieces, analyzed them, modified harmonies and phrases. Pretty awesome.
My next big test this week will be to set up Garrity Personal Orchestra in midi so I can use these instruments within Synfire. Doesn't look to complicated, but I'm sure I'll run into some issues.
I would be interested in any advice, feedback you could offer as I'm just getting started. Here's my set up:
I have primarily used Propellerhead REASON/RECORD, but also just purchased license for REAPER. I do love REASON though, and while it doesn't host VST/AU, it is such a robust application with literally unlimited sounds. So I would like to also use instrumentation/synth pads, etc with the composition work I do in Synfire. And I'll also exclusively use REAPER as my DAW for simplicity reasons. Knowing this, any advice? And will I have issues using REASON/REAPER with Synfire?
thanks, and I'm sure you'll see more posts from me until I'm comfortable with the whole learning process.
Regards
John
