Fighting Spam Attacks

Posted

Just a sidenote on how many spammers attempt to register at this site. Since the CAPTCHA test does not seem to keep anyone away, we need to sort real users out by hand. During the past week we had

40 +

registrations from spammers each day(!) I am glad we have the very strict registration procedure in place. Telling real users from spammers is relatively easy now.

So, if you wonder why you have to go through the hoopla of looking up our secret word for the registration form, this is why.

Zeese... and it often takes me  1,2,3 times to get the Captcha phrase right.  Yes, whatever it takes to keep spammers out..  a month ago, someone figured out how to make it look  like 1000's of spam emails were coming from my computer..  Time Warner really dragged their ass in stopping it..

I gave up cable because of the expense $140 in Manhattan for decent cable with a few extra channels..  I don't miss it, when I do look at TV now, I'm shocked at how much toxins we let into our mind.  There is some good programming, but most of it is mindless garbage.

A lot of the internet is getting like that now too, Sights have commercials, the more evil ones put up spam screens you have to force guit your browser to stop.

I installed Little Snitch to tell me if my computer is receiving or sending data over internet, and do I want to let it happen.  I installed another program called Ghosties,  it tells you which sites are trying sneak cookies into your computer or leave tracking software..  And it's fairly shocking how commonplace it is..  I don't like it..
