Global articulations for global rack

Posted

When i use a global  rack for HALion Symphonic Orchestra now .. say for violins i added the articulations in the arrangement.

These assigned articulations are lost when use the global rack for violins again in a new arrangement.
Again assinging articulations... that is time consuming.
Is there no way to make articulations for a particular instrument global ?
So the idea is that each time i use the global rack the articulations are assigned to the instrument already.

I though you could setup the articulations and controls as part of the device definition for device you are using in the global rack?

If they are defined in the global device they should be always available for the global rack. Maybe we arent thinking of the same thing? I thought you meant either keyswitches or midi control cc articulations?

Yes, but i don't see how to use the articulations in more than one arrangement
example: i open now a global arrangement rack were some instruments do have articulations assigned by me
Now i am open a second arrangement and using the same global rack again...but there are no articulations anymore

So i must again assign the articulations for a this second arrangement..

It was also my thought about this.. and i talking about keyswitches

The solo violin has 13 keyswitches  :-) for example

In the custom articulation box there is a tab: device description, but there is no input there ?
It is not a device definition.
Seems to me a bug.

Another point is how to see graphically  what articulation is used in Synfire in the arrangement  ?

Not sure why you dont have a device definition, maybe youve never added/created one. There is one for halion in tghe online repository.

However looking at http://www.cognitone.com/products/comparison/page.stml Im not sure articulations (keyswitches) is supported in the non-pro version, so you might not be able to add them to the device definition anyway (unless youve upgraded or andre has added them in).

Thanks for your help.

I use the pro version of Synfire..and i found !  on the properties tab the articulation knob for adding global articulations.
Perhaps a idea to add 2 buttons for articulations on the arrangement window?
- articulations
- articulation global rack

I don't get it working a global articulation definition for the brass rack.
In the device description i added the articulations, but in the arrangement i cannot select global articualtions
The tab device description shows these articulations, but assigning them to a segment  gives a not working OK button in the device description tab.
What goes wrong here?

Perhaps as template?.. i must make a template from a brass rack and assemble from there a working brass rack ?

Is this correct working a global articulation definition for a rack ?
No idea how it exactly must be done, because it is not documented

When i made articulation (local) per instruments for a rack and assign this to a segment (symbol) it is recognized by HSO Vsti
I can see in HSO the keyswitch chances for a phrase and listening..that is the only way to know what articlation is in play, because there is no ghrapical sign to see in the phrase of the articulation

To type in all articulations for a instrument over and over again ..is laborious ..so a global definition for articulation is better
Can it be explained how the global articulations must be set up in Synfire ?
I think it  must be done with a template ?

It's the same procedure as in your other thread.  On the Properties tab of the DD, select 'Articulations' and define your key switches in there.

Regarding graphically representing key switches, I'm not sure what you expect.  In a DAW, all you would see is a MIDI note for the key switch.  In Synfire, if you select the segment, the key switch shows up in the Atriculation for the figure parameter.  What else could it do?

I missed some steps to get the global articulation working for a rack, but now it is working.

- temporary Keyswitch mode must be off in HSO

- assigning a articulation to a segment with the articulation box ( NO ) ..it must be done in the parameter tab and then choose the articulation for a segment.
Seems to me userfriendlier that in the Custom  articulations box there is button : "assign articulations" what opens the parameter tab.
Also something with "global rack articulation" a button what brings you to the DD for the articulations.
Now it is not self explanatory in Synfire doing these "articulations": a pain in the ass :)

In Cubase in the score editor the name of the articulation is showing up and in the key editor there are editorlanes with names of the used type of articulation.
In Synfire there is no clue to see what articulation is used...

Yes there is.  It shows the name of the articulation used, whatever you defined it as.  In the picture, I have called it Variation 1, but you could call it Trills, Staccato, or whatever.

EDIT: Why doesn't inline work?  I've done it as it says in the help.

In the arrangement as a whole to see at first sight , what articulations are used ?
HAlion symphonic Orchestra seems  to be modest in relation to the number of articulations compared with other sample libraries ( more expensive )
It could be a visual help to see the used articulation, but naming must be assigned to a segment : perhaps with a switch for on/ off.
Who knows is this helpful for composing ?
