More Prefs options.

Posted

The user needs to give thought as to how he wants to save componants of a project.. We are sometimes going to make libraries and phrase pools which would only be for that song.

Otherwise one would want generic libraries and phrases pools stored in the same place..

I would like to see SFP ask when saving 'would you like to save all auxilary files for project".  This would be the equivalent to MAC OSX prefs, where all windows opened when shutting off computer, would automatically open upon start up of computer..

When I work on a project, I would like to see all previously opened objects, in same place on screen..

In Prefs, there would be a question would you like to store auxilary componants with song project or default paths..

Libraries and phrase pools unchanged would remain in default paths.  If changes were made, one would choose where to store it, Are you building up the library for generic use or only for that project.

I have recently been creating and using a project only library.  Dragging all parts from one song project into it, in case I screw something up, and need to retrieve it, rather than open a previous project which may not the latest addition.. Often I use a phrase, and can't remember where I got it from. I'm screwed if I want to avail myself of other riffs from that particular libary.

There does seem to be a few areas in SFP where one cannot 'undo' an unwise action. Copying or moving a section of a chord progression is one, there are a few others too.

A tip for users:  I now make heavy use of desktop pictures. Rightnow I am using on Mac a program called 'SnapNDrag', cause it easily lets you alter type of image, and resolution.  I use it a lot with  Logic, position windows where all necessary info is displayed and snap a picture, same with SFP.   There is nothing worse, than app crashing or too much time passing and you can't remember how you did a certain set-up.

The plan is to integrate a library with the arrange window and that library is saved with the arrangement. Sort of a project clipboard.

Reopening other files with an arrangement may not work, if the files have moved, or their content has changed much. It is difficult to maintain dependencies between many files.

Undo works for all changes in a song. Sometimes the key command may be deaf (Mac only). Use the menu then.

I have on occassion run into instances where the Undo command (under vector edit) did not command.. Perhaps I had moved to a different window?..... I'll pay more attention to it..

I'm familiar with CommandShift4, but SnapNDrag is free and it lets you select resolution, size of file, choice of what to select.. It automatically names the file, and will default to where ever you set (it's just easier)...

I'm glad to hear about Library arrange window..  Project clipboard sounds perfect. Yes it is a complicated arrangement, with different type files, locations, etc.

I just selected a section of the chord progression in arrangement, and transposed it up a whole step.  Worked fine, Then I decided I didn't like it. The chord transposition WAS NOT listed under the EDIT/UNDO command.. The last  undo listed was a copy container command,
