Polytonality/Layer (solved)

Posted

I recently tried to use polytonality with Synfire Pro 3 and am rather unsatisfied about it hardly working at all for anything else than creating simplified versions of a base progression (somewhat useful) or messing up major and minor chords (useless for me).

Currently the only ways to add polytonality layers are by creating either an exact copy of the existing progression (all chords are displayed in a "normal", not slanted font for that layer, the resulting layer is not editable), a subtriad layer for adding simpler versions of complex chords (needs to be used a second time for making Dom7 chords into plain major chords instead of diminished triads) and a third option (pentatonic melody) that messes up major and minor chords.

I found no way of further editing the resulting layer chords apart from changing the base progression.

For a bug I found in the layer editing mechanism I'll post a separate bug report in this forum.

I would like to see the function of this feature restored like it was in previous versions of Synfire.

Awesome!

I didn't pay attention to that little square grid icon denoting a layer tab opening a door into a new world of polytonality. Wasn't clear for me in a quick glance over the context-sensitive help page either.

Thanks a lot for the very helpful hint.
