HN2 internal sounds/ Piano ->pallet question

Hi.

I am using HN2 only as a reference tool.... In upper tab I select internal instrument "Piano" (Grand or Bright) In that Instrument tab it sounds OK, as it should on virtual keyboard that is on the bottom of that page.

Switching to Pallete same piano has a very long sound after touch. I really (really!) do not like or want the sound to be that long.  Is it possible to make this piano sound just like in instrument tab as it should be, without ridiculously long aftertouch?

Kindly let me know.

Thank you.

Anybody?

Seems like a simple and proper question. Internal aftertouch sound (Acoustic piano Bright or Grad) lasts for ridiculous 10 seconds in Palette mode. Is there a way to make it shorter ~2 sec or so?

Kindly help.

Thank you in advance.

Hmmm...

Anybody alive? I am very surprised that software had been around for years... and nobody tried to answer a relatively simple question.

Andre... anybody?

Andre, I purchased the software and I think it is fair for you to expect a question and for me to expect an answer.

It is not a trick question. All I want to know is how to make internal sound of piano in pallete NOT to have 10 second aftertouch as it has by default.

Thank you.

Sorry for the wait.

(If you have an urgent question, please email support. This is a user to user forum that is only monitored on occasion)

The palette was designed to browse harmony in a laid back fashion. That's why it triggers a sustained chord by default. If you want a chord to last only until you release the mouse button, hold the mouse button for at least 0.8 seconds.

Palettes are not suited well for playing rhythms. You would do that with phrases that ultimately translate your harmony to rhythms or melodic patterns.

Andre,

Laid back is one thing, but 10 seconds is extremely long time, by any standard. Meaning, I click chord move to the other software to make adjustments and still hear it ringing. Is it possible to reduce this 10 second aftertouch to something like 1-3 seconds? It is a bit disturbing. Honestly, I thought that it would be no issue of changing, but to my surprise I did not find a setting. I am not playing any rhythms or playing live, but as it is... it is way loose. Please let me know if you can do this. It is a very reasonable request.

Thank you.

Yes, there could be a setting for that. Added this to feature requests.

Please!

Not even setting... Maybe a soft piano with 1-2 second aftertouch, that you would select  normally as available instrument, but would not have loooong aftertouch?

Andre, 10 seconds is very long...

Thank you in advance.

Andre, I like logic behind the HN, but again that "sustained" piano is absurdely long, playing "rhythms" has nothing to do with it. Also it has little to do with "relaxed" feel. I am not relaxed when instrument is ringing for 10 seconds after button is pressed. To me it sounds like something is wrong with this software...Your workaround of holding mouse for 0.8 sec.. is not a natural workflow. It is usually reverse of that.... hold to get longer sound, let go for short. In any case there are some things I do not like with software which I can fully live with, but this one is very (VERY!) annoying. Kindly fix this asap. User defined: Automatic sustain? Thank you.

Hello Andre.

Any idea when extremely long aftertouch can be fixed on HN2? It is very (Very!) annoying. If it was somethig difficult to request or some "feature" that would be one thing., but no sound synth that I have ever tried (software or hardware) would have such non adjustable long aftertouch. Just reverse what you have. Long aftertouch if the mouse is remaining pressed and goes away as soon as you release it. Makes 100% sense. Please let me know.

Thank you.

Andre,

It only takes to change a couple of line of code. The extremely long aftertouch is NOT NORMAL and EXTREMELY annoying. It should be at least 2-3 times shorter by default. Please fix. To a programmer, this particular item  should not take more than 10 minutes. The logic that is implemented on this:  "If you want a chord to last only until you release the mouse button, hold the mouse button for at least 0.8 seconds."  is not intuitive at all, it should be a reverse of that. Hold click longer=long aftertouch, release faster->short aftertouch.

PLEASE (!!!) fix.

Thank you.

Andre, it had been over 6 month. It is a tiny request that I made...

Actually, I do not believe it is a "request" but something that was programmed incorrectly in the first place. Internal sound emitting from the pallete is extremely long. It should be shorter like 3-4 times!! Or at least if you HOLD the mouse click should be longer, relese-end. Logical!  Not the way it was done. Why should anyone "train" their fingers very specific way to get normal response? Please... It is a matter of changing couple of lines. Kindly fix this.

I understand you want to play percussive chords in real-time, but that's not working with the lag caused by computing a harmonic context (scales, inversions, extensions, etc). There's always a couple ms delay. At the time you would release the mouse button, the sound would not even have started playing. It can be done with a queue, but no easy fix. Also, there needs to be a UI for that setting, etc.

Since the palette was designed for assessing harmony timbres within a progression, incl. scales, extensions and all, it is meant to be played with a sustained sound (strings, pad, voices). Therefore your suggestion is more a new feature than a fix. But at this time we are 100% busy developing new releases and under extreme pressure to get it done. Unfortunately there's no capacity for switching back to and working on the old code base.

As a temporary solution, maybe you could use a sound with a shorter release time. Or use some chorder plug-in based on real-time MIDI without the computation overhead.

"it is meant to be played with a sustained sound (strings, pad, voices)"

with 10 seconds of sustain default ????

Yes sure. Until you touch a new chord, or stop playback with the spacebar.

Yes, but it is supposed to be a "creative" software for music making...not training fingers or non intuitive learning shortcuts memorizing program. You said yourself something about "laid back" ... 10 second default sustain buziing note is NOT laid back.

Of course, you as a moderator can block me or similar, but I will tell you this. In my view your biggest mistake that you do not listen to customers. This minor thing that I requested is 5 minutes of work. I had been requesting it for 6 month...

More on this for your own statistics. I will not be tempted to upgrade (unless there is a significant "something" I can't live without) exactly for this reason. You are making software for customers, but do not listen to them.

Makers of Scaler listened and implemented couple of my ideas. Cakewalk (with hundreds of thousands of users) made one feature on my request. Here, I feel like a woodpecker trying to explain something very obvious.

Please reconsider.

Thanks.
