New to Synfire Pro 2

Posted

Hello All

I'm trying to see what is the best way to use Synfire Pro 2. I use Cubase 14 Pro and Kontakt 8 and Komplete Kontrol also lots of other VST 3 instruments. Is it  better to use Synfire Pro 2 in standalone and sync to Cubase 14 or use Synfire Pro 2 inside of cubase. I'm extra new and struggling to get it set up.

We recommend you use Synfire standalone until you got the hang of it. Since you already own many VST3 instruments you will be fine (no need to rely on built-in DAW instruments).

Setting up a DAW for sync and operating the Drones and guest plug-ins is a distraction that keeps you busy with technical intricacies while you learn nothing about composing music from parameters (which is the main and most powerful feature of Synfire).

We briefly considered separating the Drones from Synfire in order to flatten the learning curve for new users. Operating two audio programs in parallel adds unnecessary friction that's only justified if recorded audio tracks are an essential part of your production.

Snippets, which is great fun and inspiring, also works best without a DAW.

FWIW, I echo the above.  I too have Cubase and Synfire, and I find that using Synfire standalone to discover and create using any sounds that are driven by MIDI, finishing in Cubase (if necessary or desired) with additional overdubs of guitar, vocals, etc.  is a very satisfying way to do it.

Same here. I use Bitwig but tbh, i have so much fun with Synfire standalone. I mainly use Synfire standalone.

Bluecat plugins can augment your workflow for now by adding additional FX, sending midi etc.

We will have additional insert FX slots with the next version already. Audio phrases (recording/playback) are also possible in the future. The ultimate goal is to have a 100% dynamic prototyping workflow and export a Synfire project in DAWproject format to finish a polished audio production with a DAW.
