Recommended Orchestral Libraries for 1.5?

Posted

What  orchestral libraries would be recommended to integrate the most smoothly into the Synfire Pro 1.5 workflow?

I have GPO but haven't managed to get it to work with the Beta yet, haven't spent a lot of time on it but each time I scan for and add the Aria VST plugin and try to change presets on it - it freezes up.

I have however been looking at investing in a different orchestral library, even pricer ones like LASS or EastWest/Hollywood Strings/Brass.

Obviously the sound quality is of high importance but a smooth integration with Synfire Pro is also a big issue for me.

Best regards,
Robert Bjarnason

We got an EWQL Gold Orchestra for development and testing and my first impression is very positive. It is extremely comprehensive, sounds very real and supports countless articulations that can be integrated with Synfire (key switches). We will eventually create a Synfire device description for this library. I like the idea of having the same library available at different levels of memory footprint, quality and detail (silver, gold, platinum).

GPO is nice for sketches and lightweight enough for mobile operation. You can not actually compare it with EWQL. It's more like an entry level product. The version we have is still running on NI Kontakt. We will also have to check the ARIA engine, thanks for bringing this up. Please check if you have the latest update of the ARIA engine installed.

Thanks for the information.  I am using the latest GPO, however it is from April 2010, I logged into their website and checked to see if there were any updates for my purchase and there is only this old version.  I tried a bit more this evening to get it to work but as soon as I try to select a preset it freezes up both the Aria player and the Synfire Audio Engine.

If I get the EWQL libs it is my current understanding that I will have to load the presets first as I want them in the EWQL player then I make a mapping to that exect preset within Synfire?  Or is there any way to remote control what sounds are selected in the EWQL player from within Synfire?

Yes. You should create a description that suits your needs and save an EWQL preset to disk that belongs to this description. This way you can always load that preset and connect it with the description in case your rack needs to be rebuilt for some reason.

A single description can address up to 4 ports, that is 4 EWQL instances. So if 64 MIDI channels are enough for your orchestra, you can put all sounds in a single description.

Or is there any way to remote control what sounds are selected in the EWQL player from within Synfire?

Unfortunately not. I would *LOVE* to have this. As every sample library uses its own structure and organization, no standard has yet evolved to exchange sound information.

During the course of creating new videos here, I will likely setup an EWQL description soon.

Great thanks. I just bought EWQL Composers Collection that includes EWQL Symphonic Orchestra Platinum, happened to be on a special 75% discount price today so the platinum version was $227 :)
