That "Transport" is a ReWire device. It should be listed in Reaper's plug-in browser. Add it to the master track andf make sure it is allowed to change Reaper's tempo.

After inserting the Transport in Reaper, it should connect to Synfire and appear on the external sync tab of the arrangement. Try checking and unchecking the "ReWire" switch.
Also be sure the "Sync" switch is enabled at the bottom of the arrange window.
Reaper will follow Synfire, but not vice versa. Stopping Reaper however, will also stop Synfire.

Rewire in Synfire is limited by Synfire's need for delay (I think that would be the right term?) for the AI processing. Therefore there is no 'loop' function so you can play something from your DAW in looped fashion while you prototype.
This processing delay requirement is why Synfire must be master of th transport and why you cannot loop.
I think this is part of the reason for the need for an audio engine ... so you could import audio for the harmonizer and that playback will be compensation delayed at onset to sync with Synfire.
