Hey guys,
A few days ago I opened a thread (https://users.cognitone.com/content/synfire-seems-out-sync) about the latency of internal GM synth.
I thought it was a GM synth problem but yesterday after I purchased Synfire express I reinstalled everything and now I got a huge latency with vst, GM synth and everything.
The latency is so big that I can visually see it..at least 1/4 of latency/delay.
In the audio settings I choose ASIO driver and my RME souncard.
is there any setting that I can look at?
thank you

Hiya,
As you using sounds via the synfire engine, drones in a daw or virtual/real midi cables? If using a daw what one are you using and also are you windows or mac based?

I'm just using Synfire, no daw..just plug-in inside Synfire
I'm on windows 7 64bit, 6Gb ram, RME soundcard

There should be no latency during playback, if all sounds are hosted by the same host (Synfire or DAW).
You will see a latency, if sounds are on different hosts, e.g. Synfire engine and Microsoft GM Synth, or Synfire engine and a DAW. Then individual sounds may be shifted against each other.

all sounds come from synfire, all vst inside synfire
the latency is huge, it's visible

By saying "visible", do you mean the placement of notes you recorded with Synfire?
If so, please check "Use Audio Engine for MIDI Input" on the Settings tab of AUdio & MIDI Setup.
Also make sure your metronome sound is hosted also on the Engine (not GM Synth).

I'm not recording anything.I'm not using a metronome.
just playback a phrase.
Example: if there is a crash cymbals at measure 1, 5, 9 I SEE and HEAR the sound at measure 1+1/4(more or less), 5+1/4, 9+1/4
hope I have been clear

Ok, then the delay is in the sound itself, or in the plug-in. Cymbals have a long attack time.
Maybe you also have some value set in the Shift parameter?

hey supertonic thanks for your time,
the cymbals was an example...I have latency with everything, there is not shift parameter..plugin do not have this latency I have been using them with other DAWs without problem.

Gianpiero,
If you have a daw, it might be worth dropping some cognitone drones onto daw tracks and using the relocate function to move the vsts from the engine into the daw.
See if this creates the same level of latency. If t does, then try dragging the midi out of the drones onto the tracks themselves. You can then see if the midi notes are in the correct timeframe.
Doing this will help diagnose if the problems synfire taking time to work out the notes to play, the engine adding a delay or if the arrangement is producing late midi notes.

how did you setup the metronome sound? make sure its coming from vsti

I may have missed this in the thread ... but if you are on a PC have you double checked to make sure the ASIO drivers for your interface have been selected for the SF Audio Engine? This sounds like classic generic windows drivers.

hey guys thanks for the suggestions
I have not tried drones in DAW and it could be a good idea to understand and isolate the problem
I do use ASIO driver and I tried to switch between ASIO and windows drivers but I did not hear any difference.
I will report back as soon as I got news
cheers

All instruments hosted within the same host should never show any timing differences against each other. They are all synched to the same clock at sample precision.
I'm afraid I still do not understand what exactly you refer to with "latency". Is that response time when playing live (midi through, monitoring)? Or timing against other instruments during playback? Or the playhead display on screen (graphics delay)?
Do., 21.02.2013 - 11:13 Permalink
I'm not refering to playing live latency. Actually when I play everyhting seems to be in time.
I'm talking about, as you said, playhead display on screen (graphics delay and sound of course).
So everything(all vst) is ahead of the time measure. Of course since ALL vst are ahead they are in time with themself
it's just graphic-sound delay

Pressing the Reset button on Audio & MIDI Setup window should also recalibrate the synch between graphics and audio.

ok guys,
thanks supertonic indeed the reset button did the trick, I don't know if I pressed the right button but suddenly everything seems on time.
thanks again for your time
