Audio engine crash when changing plugin settings (Blue2)

Posted

Synfire Pro 1.8.5 build #5

I'm willing to bet that this doesn't apply to just Blue 2.

The audio engine crashed when I attempted to create a new bank in Blue2.

This appears to be an uncaught exception in the audio engine causing the crash. The audio engine should be tolerant of errant plugins.

How does one restart the engine without having to exit and restart Synfire?

This also occurs with 1.9.

Enter the Blue2 manager (MAN button) and under BANKS press New.

How does one restart the engine without having to exit and restart Synfire?

Check the Windows Task Bar. The Engine can be shut down there. To restart, just do so in Synfire's Audio & MIDI Setup window on the "Audio" tab. Sometimes this requires to wait for a timeout to expire before Synfire is responsive again.

The audio engine should be tolerant of errant plugins.

Impossible unfortaunately, as all plug-ins are running in the same OS process. Running each plug-in in a separate OS process is something only the most sophisticated DAWs can do (Logic Pro X or ProTools, probably, I haven't checked).
