I have enjoyed Synfire very much but I have not been happy with my workflow for drum tracks. I find it hard to write or edit the drum parts in Synfire, and I do not like running Synfire and a DAW at the same time if I can avoid it.
Yesterday I saw that Fxpansion had BFD eco on sale for 29 US dollars until 12/31/13, so I bought it. I have found that it works very well with Synfire. I simpily load it as a plug-in in Synfire but do not write or record any notes in Synfire. I use BFD eco's build-in track to make the drum part using grooves included with BFD eco. Obviously BFD 3 will also work and will allow me to write my own grooves, but it is much more expensive and much more of a resourse hog.
Maybe someday I will get better at writing drum parts in Synfire or Synfire may have better tools for making them. But in the meantime, this is a fast way to allow me to concentrate on the other parts of the arrangement! I hope someone else finds this useful.

not in the same league price wise BFD eco, but if you win the lottery are looking to upgrade to the full BFD3, have a look at spectrasonics Stylus RMX as an alternative plugin for drums and grooves.
