In their documentation for the Strings part is mentioned: "64 bit Host Sequencer recommended". (See below)
http://www.soundsonline.com/Hollywood-Strings
PC RECOMMENDED SYSTEM
- Intel Core 2 Quad, or AMD Quad Core 2.66 GHz or above
- 16GB RAM or more
- Windows 7 or later (64-bit Windows / Host Sequencer)
- Sound card with ASIO drivers
- SSD (Solid State Drive) for sample streaming
But Also:
PLAY [Alpho: their dedicated "KONTAKT"-player] is compatible with all DAWs that use VST, AU, or AAX plugins.
Can Synfire Pro cope with the highest recommendations? Thanks, Alpho

The PLAY system works with Synfire at 64 and 32 bit (tested with EWQL Orchestra Gold). AFAIK, they are using the same playback engine for all their products.
ASIO on Windows works fine with Synfire, although not for a DAW and Synfire at the same time (it's not multi-client capable). Windows Audio does.

What Synfire (or any other DAW) can handle depends on how much computer power you have.
AFAIK - The Diamond version has 24 bit samples, while the Gold version is 16 bit. Diamond also has extra samples with additional mic positions.
Their recommended system should be looked at as the MINIMUM specs to run their software.

Both Andre and Boydbob thanks for your info.
I understand that it is preferable for such a big samplepacket to have more than 16GB RAM (32 GB?) and an SSD as datadisk.

You've probably already done all this, but I finally read up on the Diamond vs the Gold Orchestra and listened to the related demos.
WOW! There is a distinct and unexpected improvement in the sound quality of Diamond over Gold.
I was considering the $30 per month Cloud Subscription (Gold instruments), but now I'm rethinking my options.
