How to make odd numbered tuplets?

Posted

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone could tell me the easiest way to make odd-numbered tuplets. For example, lets say I want to make a quintuplet? 5 and 7 against 4 is not so uncommon, you'll even find it in progressive rock so I'm not understanding why this isn't easier to do or perhaps I'm missing something?

Thank you, jeremy

These are not currently on the toolbar menu, but you can draw a straight segment and stretch it by 4/5, for example.

I haven't used odd tuplets a lot myself (as a singer, yes, but not at the computer), so I may be wrong, but as far as I remember, they are not a fixed grid that could be mapped to the timeline and shown as a grid. It depends on where you start the tuplet, which is not necessarily at the beginning of a measure.

Unless I'm wrong, this is what makes them incompatible with the current notion of a grid. And please, should I be wrong, let me know!
