Hi, i can't answer about the software but i have a workaround for that sorts of things : i use Sygate (an old software that was bought by another company, but the 5.5 version can still be found.)

It asks your authorization (and whether to make a rule of it or not, so as to not be asked again if you don't want to) for any inbound or outbound traffic. So you can prevent your softwares from accessing the net, and thus updating.

ps: not sure if that old soft still works on vista/7 though, i'm on XP sp3.

my concern is that many composers have very interesting ideas and loads of intelectual property.
so in the case of a company collecting usage data, and then learning the composers ideas to include in future updates
(or for themselves)
and enables them an unfair advantage over the competition .
why are they are not commenting here about it within this forum?

Erik, I understand your concerns.

Cognitone does not collect any usage data or look into your music files or anything like that. This is an absolute no go. In case we needed to learn how our software is being used, we would (and certainly will) start a public survey.

You can set the update check to monthly. It just looks whether there are new downloads available to notify you. It does not install anything on its own.
