Interpretation Settings missing from the Manual

Posted

I'm trying to gain a better understanding of the important Interpretation parameter, but some of the settings are not documented in the manual.  Please could you explain the following?

In the Voice Leading tab, the manual for the Strategy setting does not explain the following:

  • Default (I assume this is the same as Standard, which is documented but not available?)
  • Solo
  • Stabilizing Fast and Stabilzing Slow (Stabilizing is documented but not available without Fast or Slow.  I can't figure out the meaning in the context of the definition)

Note that in the Form tab, 'Distinct' and 'Inversions' are not in the manual, but I have figured these out by hovering over the option.  Auto-Bass is also not documented but it is self-explanatory.

Thanks for the reminder. The manual needs an update.

Default and Standard are the same. There should not be two items in the menu. Maybe this is a localization issue ("Standard" is used in German).

Solo uses weak settings for more passing tones.

Stabilizing allows more passing tones at the beginning of a measure, the slowly forcing stronger notes towards its end. Fast or slow just tells how quickly that change happens.

I am working on these settings to make them more transparent in the future.

Thanks Andre,

I've susequently noticed that the Strategy is set to 'Customized' for most of the presets, meaning I can't tell which strategy is used.  Also it is not possible to select Customized yourself.

Can you explain the meaning of this setting please?

Sorry for the delay. The "new" tag disappeared from this thread, so it happend to slip my attention.

That "Customized" label indicates that none of the factory presets are used. Strategy is affected by many settings that are invisible but included with the interpretation presets that you can recall from the other menu. If you call up a preset that uses a Strategy configuration for which there is no preset, you will see "Customized".

Maybe it should read "Non Standard" or similar.
