Keep Snippet Group Inspector Selection Until Changed

Posted

Hi.

When working with Snippet Groups, we are looking at 4 choices of Inspector type:

Group, Figure, Instrument, or Container

Currently, every time we select a different Snippet Group, the selection is changed back to 'Group'.

This is the cause of alot of extra time and motion when the user is aiming to adjust one of these categories across all of the Snippet Groups in the grid.   This is because each new selection of Snippet Group causes a need to remake the desired selection of Group, Figure, Instrument, or Container.

I suggest one of the following:

a) change the behavior in all cases so that the last selection between Group, Figure, Instrument, or Container persists across all Snippet Groups until the user makes a new selection.

or

b) when we shift-click (instead of just click)  on one of Group, Figure, Instrument, or Container, then change the behavior dynamically to do the Group, Figure, Instrument, or Container  persistence until the user makes a new selection.

Select a snippet in a group instead of the group. Group selection will follow.

If you want to keep the inspector on the instrument tab, select instruments on the mix console.

Selecting a group button directly implies you want to do something with the group or edit its properties.

Hi.   Yes, I do want to do something with the group - I want to examine and possibly change it's instrument.

And I want to do that for each group in turn, hence the desire not to constantly have to re-select Instrument from [Group, Figure, Instrument, or Container].

A group is merely a bunch of snippets. It is not necessarily associated with a particular instrument. There could be many instruments in a (mixed) group and multiple groups can share overlapping sets of instruments.

If you want to edit instruments you select them on the console (no group required).

Keeping a tab selection persistent as you suggest is usually a good thing. In this case I'm not sure. Group properties are important for the grid to make sense. But they are somewhat hidden. I'd rather make them as obvious as possible: Select a group = see its properties on the inspector. An instrument is not one of its properties.
